Hi Debbi,
I don't spend as much time on this thread anymore. I am trying to learn about every breed/variety I have so my time is greatly split until I make some hard decisions on what to keep. The Marans for sure, True Ameraucanas, English & APA Orpingtons & the list goes on.
Kim,
Thanks for the good wishes. We pray for the best it can be everyday.
The new variety I am adding is the Golden Cuckoos. I passed them up last year & have been sorry many times. I sooooo like the crele (Creole?) look. My duckwing crele looking EE rooster was my favorite but I gave up all my crossbreeds. He is just lawn candy now. One of my drawbacks was the egg color I saw on the GCM but I have a breeder friend with beautiful birds that she is going to cross to a line that have darker eggs to see what we get.
The Blue girl I have is from you. There are 2 Blue Copper boys, 2 Blue Copper girls, 1 girl that presents as Blue but is from yours so she has Copper in her too. Sooooo??????????? I can put all of them in with the Black Coppers?
As of Monday the whites are going back to the breeder I bought the eggs from. SHe had a predator problem & lost her roosters. I have 2 of her cockerels & 4 pullets that she is buying back. I hatched eggs for her last winter & ended up with one of her pure Black Marans & was calling him my mystery bird. Nice looking solid black bird with black fathers down his shanks????? No way around here but ah ha, she remembered that I had an incubator problem last winter keeping the hatching chicks separated & he escaped from her tray......LOL I now have my wire cylinders that I keep eggs separated in. Her black cockerel will go home with her Monday too along with a couple of my loose BCM cockerels & a couple of Buff Wyandottes she got. I don't have Wyandottes I sold the BLRW that I had. I would like a few SLW just for their feathers. I have been making feather earrings & the SLW have such pretty feathers for that. I never lack for things to do & never seem to get enough of any of them done................Like I said before I should have started this when I was waaaaaaaay younger.....LOL
Yep...what Debbi said.
Any of the birds that you hatched out from me are definitely coppers, but if you have pure solids (lucky you if you do) then I would keep them seperate like Debbi suggested.
DO TELL what new variety? I'm sitting on the edge of my seat.
How are your Whites coming along?
Hugs and prayers coming to you and the family.
