Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

So if imix a blue splash with a blue splash will I get bbs splash? And black splash with black splash is 100% black splash and splash splash equals splash splash? Hahahaha sorry for my dumbness.

Okay I have a "I feel really dumb for not knowing this" kind of question...What does F-1 and F-2 mean? If you could see my face right now, if is flushed with embracement

Thank you Michele

F stands for filial (the generation or generations after the parental generation.) The parents are represented as P. You get F1 from the parents, F2, from crossing F1 with F1 and so on.

YEA! 12 little chicks :). Now let's hope for a bunch of pullets!
Congrats on the excellent hatch!!!

well 12 little BCMs hatched. I did help 1 or 2 out...for some reason, even though I never opened it after lockdown, they didn't progress and I could see them weakening. So they're all doing great except 1...who lays on it's back alot and cheeps, flails its legs...etc. Time will tell- but here is a pic for now. Please xcuse the mess...they're in there til tomorrow...

Beautiful as always, Vicki!
So very feminine!

Congrats Lisa and Donna!

haha...these are my sales find! I'm pleased with them...now just to watch them grow. I'm gonna work on replying to your emails from last night here in a bit. I'm working on some flooring...removing the wax and etc so I can reseal it. fun times.

Splash x splash = 100% splash. Splash does not distinguish between blue splash and black splash. Splash comes from blue birds. Blue does not breed true so you can end up with blue, black, or splash when working with blue birds.

Congrats, Amy!

Thanks, Vicki!

I hear you on "fun times" - we unrugged our 120yr old floors, sanded (and sanded and sanded), then seal - sand - seal - ad naseaum...

Not great for the back!! Be careful!

I'm not onto the wood floors yet, but I will be working on those sometime this year hopefully. This is the flooring in the kitchen, laundry room and dining room. Mostly its just taking the buildup of wax off....takes time, but not too bad. Its the wood floors indeed that will be the challenge.... yay...

If the chick is having problems standing you can splint the legs. I don't have much luck with it. I did try a cup and that worked. I put them in a juice bottle with just the top cut off and they will sit on their leg and get control of it without damaging it more. I don't have a good history with these kinda babies but this was the first thing that worked. I have 1 in a cup now. He was not bad so I have hope. Good luck!
