Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Can you help me with the gender of these blue and splash marans? There are 3 splashes but I only got pictures of 2 because they look so much the same to me. They are 4 weeks old.

I had the MOST AWESOME HATCH... of my Marans. EVERY EGG PIPPED! 1 died after zipping some, 1 is still pipped but all the rest HATCHED! I am in shock... never hatched that many Marans at one time.

6 BCM From Pink's Roo
4 Blue CM From Pink's Roo
2 Blue CM From Eric (my avatar)
5 BCM From Eric

3 still in the hatcher. 1 black Copper from each roo and I think the other one is a blue from Pinks roo.

Maybe the Fan being off is a good thing. 36 total and 2 pipped still. I would not be surprised to see more babies tomorrow. Might need to find a way to have air circulation without the fan blowing on the eggs at all....

Cute babies! Looking at the pictures they all look rooish to us but seeing that they are only 4 weeks old that could change over the up coming weeks. hopefully someone else will be more help.

Lark Rise: I think Blue Marans 1: Roo. blue Marans 2 : pullet ; both Splash: pullet. IMHO

Just back from TSC with little Giant -on sale for $39, Emu egg has no holes. Science teacher obtained it from the Zoo, was going to break it for kids to see the inside, but knew we had chicks and incubated, so gave it to my son (who keeps hugging me and thanking me) ~ I told him he can thank me with a fence. DH.... Ummmm, let's just say he opted out of the TSC joy ride.

ChickenLisa: woo hoo! What an excellent hatch! Pics? :pop

Ok...I managed to get a few shots of the wild bunch. Yes..that's their collective name for now

The first two shots are in the sun coming through one of the windows in the barn. This is the girl with the most birchen coloring so far, although most of them have some level of color coming in.

check out those street sweepers! And on a birchen no less!

Here is that girl's coloring from above without the sunlight changing it. Not bad eh?

Here's a few random shots of the girls in the little area they get to go hide in at night to sleep. They are doing better with people, but it will take some more work for sure before they are easy to get nicer pics of them. I really like the stocky body type on the girl second from the right that is behind the other two...she is the shyest of them all, of course.... grr

look at all that suspicion! haha...they really are sweet...just not been around people a whole lot. I'll keep workin with them, until then, these are the best i could get. Anyone wanna venture guesses on age? They still make baby chick noises and from the looks of them I think they might end up being pretty big.

well 12 little BCMs hatched. I did help 1 or 2 out...for some reason, even though I never opened it after lockdown, they didn't progress and I could see them weakening. So they're all doing great except 1...who lays on it's back alot and cheeps, flails its legs...etc. Time will tell- but here is a pic for now. Please xcuse the mess...they're in there til tomorrow...
