Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Just wondering if anyone on the forum has any knowledge on the Cuckoo Marans they would like to share. I have six pair after culling and they are the feather leg type

I have a couple of male cuckoo that have decent type and I believe my males are better then the female. Hopefully some will come along with pictures.

I have these tw roosters ... no hens. I have 2 cuckoo roos and one hen.

I got the cuckoos for variety, and the BCM adult was given to me by the folks that hatched him.

I don't know if they are quality or what...\\

Well, all first time outsiders are now in bed. That didn't go as bad as I thought it would. Started getting dark, and they were getting worried. I was in the pen with them and stood by the pop door. One of the pullets had the right idea and went in. Nobody followed her, so she came back out. Picked up the roo and put him in, then the girls lined up by the door, but wouldn't go in. Had to pick them up one by one and put them in. At least they let me!

Fuglee, the roo, did something strange tonight. He would lay down near a pullet, then snake his way between her legs like he was hiding. Is this insecurity? Like hiding under the hen behavior?? He did it several times, I never saw that before. Clue me in here as to what that was, please?

Hi greencastle!!!! How have you been, good to see ya!

Are you looking to breed one color variety or are you looking to breed more than one color of Marans.

With the Black Copper, Blue Copper and Splash Copper a person can run all three colors together in the same pen and get pure Black Copper, Blue Copper and Splash Copper birds from those matings. This is the same with solid Blue, Black and Splash Marans.

A fun variety maybe could be the Cuckoo Marans and run some solid Blue Marans in with them and make your own Blue Cuckoos. Oh and these would be sexlinked. Fun!

Wheatens breed true and can be sexed very early on. Wheatens are very beautiful birds.

its been a long day here.
I was looking for some chicks closer to home but I could not find anyone that had Marans so I had some eggs sent. Im hoping I will at least get a rooster and a hen so I can start my little flock. I here all kinds of bad stories about people that have had eggs sent though the mail some i'm hoping to be one of the lucky ones and get a nice big hatch but I did get extras just in case.
