You want the BUTTERBALLS ? ? ? I swear they are little butterball turkeys in disguise.

I am going to narrow my flock down to two or three breeds. . .

MARANS ROCK and are a given!

The remaining choices are Speckled Sussex, Partridge Rocks, and Delawares. I won't know which I am going with until they go through next summers 3 - 4 months of upper 90 - 100's temps.

So the little speckly birds have to stay a little longer. They are at POL right now. All red in the face, but no laying action yet. The delawares are the little chicks I just hatched and I have two partridge rocks the same age as the speckled sussex. I need a breed that can take the heat. I would also like a breed that has broody tendencies. . . . That is what I will be watching these 3 breeds for.

I can tell you that the speckled sussex do live up to their reputation for being a super friendly bird, RIGHT at your feet.

CHICKS

If I decide to go with the speckled sussex - - -
you let me know next year and we can meet somewhere and you can have some eggs for that crazy broody leghorn of yours.

That is such an incredible surprise and blessing - - -
A leghorn who will go broody and mother her chicks

One of a five guns, cut my own wood until 3 years ago, still burn wood, and exactly NOT MARRIED twice removed! Shake the ground, heck, hasn't even been a bump in the road here in a long time!

My chicklets have flown to the coop! They weren't exactly happy about it either! They'll be 10 weeks old on Thursday, so it was well past time. Got the coop kit together and somewhat reenforced and beefed up, and tonight is their first night outside!

I'm worried for them, they were peeping their little heads off.."Mama, Mama, come take us inside!!" Broke my heart to put them in there, as they were not going willingly. Supposed to get down to 40* tonight, but I've been acclimating them slowly while in their room in the house. I can close the room off from the rest of the house, and on a few of the freezing nights, their room got down to 45*, so temp-wise, they should be fine...I hope. Will post some pics of the, ahem, "Deluxe Coop", that is supposed to hold 5-6 LF chickens... NOT!!

Ok, here's some pics of the coop kit. Please do NOT buy one of these unless you live in a part of the world that has no rain, wind, cold, or predators! The last pic will give you an idea of what the company that sells these thinks is a FLOOR! Cheap, cheap, cheap, and that ain't my chooks cheeping for joy! Beefed it up some tonight, will paint when the weather gets better this weekend, and will also add some timbers for anchors. Added some sturdier flooring and this is within my existing run with electric fencing. As these are sold, they are only good for an INSIDE use in the real chicken world! These were also advertised as being able to house 5-6 chickens, or 6-10 bantys. I will probably only use this again for a pair that I plan to single mate, or babies in the summer. Sheesh!

You may need that age difference to take care of you in the future! Now, if I could find one twenty years younger, that had carpentry and plumbing skills, and wasn't a PIA to have around, well I'd be in seventh heaven!

Don't know about "got it going on", more like just pluggin' along, but doing it my way, and loving it!
