Yes, I never saw it before when I helped? Seems they've been connected to the shell as opposed to the chick? Hope he makes it. There was a tinge of blood, so didn't want to go any further. He may just be lazy or yolk not absorbed all the way yet, so I'll let him go for the time being. He is starting to chirp a little more now, so that's a good sign. He got very quiet for a bit too long before I went in.

Sacrifice one or two eggs if you can and crack them open to see if they are fertile. This way you can be sure he is getting some fertile eggs. I sacrifice several eggs and try to check each individual girls eggs from shortly after they start laying and from time to time throughout lay cycle to check for fertility or continued fertility.

I try to keep it reasonable because I feel that these birds and the good stock they originated from should be obtainable by everyone and I am happy to share them....but I am also not against anyone selling their eggs or stock for $60 or more a dozen or asking $50 dollars for a bird that comes from that good stock.
As to why....I would hope that they are asking their price because they have good quality stock and offer nicely colored eggs. I would also hope that the hatch rates would have been acceptable providing all things considered shipping and individual incubation methods and things out of the sellers control. I would also hope that they are honest and dependable breeders that stand behind their birds. But I am not really an authority on anything related to ebay or even why other sell things as they do and I know I am missing alot and I do hope others will chime in with their thoughts and opinions. I think it will and can be a very good discussion.

Good mornin' Debbi! I had read your post you were going to go in after that chicker if it hadn't done anything by 11. I came in from doing some gardening work for a mid mornin cup of coffee and just had to check and see how it was going. Glad you helped the chick...I do the same thing
I'll keep my fingers crossed that they keep getting stronger and are ready to join the others soon. Anything else happening in the other eggs still in the incubator?

Agreed Mathace! Got a couple of people around these parts just making the quick buck and its hard since they sell the Marans and as far as I can see from their stock, do not do any culling or such for quality in the breeding program, so hence the countryside will soon be filled with sub par (side sprigs, etc) birds. Makes me sad.
