interesting broody stories! I think I will give my current BCM Broody 4 eggs from other hens and see what she does with them. Hopefully I can get her to lay again before summer is over!

Village I would think that a hen raising her chicks would make for better foragers and that they would catch up to your hand raised ones as long as there were good eats to be had. I wish I could try it but with all the hawks and foxes if I had chickens that made through all the predators I probably couldn't catch them either I don't know. I have a broody hatchery Cuckoo due to hatch out Monday or Tuesday...I gave her 4 Delaware eggs she's done an excellent job of setting so I'll see how she does as a mom. So far I've only had one BCM who thought she wanted to set on eggs she quit at 12 days hasn't been broody since. I would love to have a few hens that would work out for raising chicks I have a neighbor with games and his all set and rear their chicks for him starting in the early spring.....I have Midget Whites right now wanting to set I hope they want to try it again next year supposed to make for better vigor in my turkeys.....

Oh! Glad she's laying for you, Cheryl! I love that speckly one.....those are my favorite ones! Give your girlie a little treat!

Awe...hang in there! Maybe you're wrong? I have a "hennyroo" right now - I'm completely baffled on the gender, and I have 7 cockerels and 6 pullets from the hatch...they are 17 weeks old now, I'm embarrassed to admit that I'm still not completely sure!

CHECK OUT MY PAGE!!!
I am new here but have posted a couple of times. Just finished setting up my page, check it out and comment! I am excited about chickens and would like to Buddy List some fellow chicken folks on the "right" side of the state (Washington).
If you happen to know anyone that could help, I am looking for 2-3 more pretty ladies to round out my chicky harem. Preferrably Black Aussies or Chocolate Eggers. Please let me know.

No broodiness at my place, BUT check out what I saw today - - -

Two hens in the same nesting box. A third hen is watching and say " Whatcha girls doing in there? "

By the way, NOT FIVE FEET away is another rubbermaid tub laying box TOTALLY EMPTY. The girls have yet to use it! No one wants to lay in the blue box! EVERYONE wants to lay in the PINK box. I have even tried splitting their eggs between the two boxes. I've seen them go in the blue box and check it out, but it does not pass the mustard!
