I understand and will see what I can do to remedy that. Too many neighborhood dogs around today to let them free range. I've gone back and the number sequences of the pictures are correct for the birds, but I do see the difference you're pointing out. ??? I'll be rechecking the white on the face. Gotta think it's the light because some of the hackles are boardering too dark and they don't appear that way in those pictures.

I am curious why ONLY the yellow?

Slick ~ When you get the dogs under control, please post more pics. Some of these almost look like they may have wry tail, but more than likely it's from being on the wire? I liked the Blue boy until I went back for a second look. He seems to have the "eye" problem with the iris color? May want to watch him. At 4 months they really don't fare well being judged, they can change drastically in another two month's time. I have had mine change drastically at much older ages here! Try to hold on to them as long as you can. JMO

Hmmm, good point! Yes, the clay dirt here is hard packed in the summer, and just a swamp here now. Oh, and can't forget the rocks!

Maybe I'll just wait till spring...

Same here in Cali. I have to put down a substrate of straw during the winter because of the clay.

Walt

Me too Walt, and that's just for me not slipping and falling on my arse! Straw is hard to come by here for some reason, not many around here grow it. When they do, the prices rival alfalfa prices. I'm seriously thinking of bringing in a big load of sand. This is not good for the chooks or me! I'd much rather haul water than to tromp around in this slop!!

I will, Debbi. The blue boy isn't going anywhere, but it would be nice if he was a solid one. Right now I have 8 cockerels in an 8' x 10' aviary and they need to be culled down as large as they are getting. That red banded one holds his tail down a lot, but once you think that's the way it is he'll raise it the correct angle again. I'm not sure about all that.

Does this blue in Marans come from the Andulusian gene?
Thanks,

I've had many tail sets change here as they got older. If they are wry (leans to one side or the other), those won't change, and are inherited. They are also a DQ, so cull for them. Extremely high (squirrel tails) are usually kept too, but some that have bordered on squirrels have come down with change in body posture, and growth in the back, when they mature more. These guys don't fully mature until they are almost two years old, but I know it's hard to hold onto all those danged roos!
