Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

So - I cleaned out my incubator as well as possible today...

Is there any way to clean out a Sportsman inside the machinery cabinet?? Everything looks fairly clean in there, other than the motor is covered in chick dust. The fan, thermostat, and wiring all appear clean.

I didn't take it apart b/c it doesn't appear to be made to come apart easily!


Vicki - I looked again at my Sportsman (it is an incubator) There's no way I can put a cover on the hatching try and probably can't put in the boxes, either, b/c the bottom turning tray dips into the hatching tray on each side as it turns.... so, then what?

I do have the Dickey hatcher, but that has the wafter thermostat and I've been reluctant to switch the eggs from the Sportsman, where they've done well and put them into another place to hatch... (I'm sure everyone does it all the time!!)

I have 5 hatching trays in the Dickey - so I could do the lids and/or the separate boxes in there - ?? -

can you get a pic for me?

Don't feel alone lady! I got ZERO eggs from EIGHT Marans hens today, and only 2 yesterday! Thank God for the Silkies, or I'd have to go buy eggs at the store!

I went out to breakfast with a friend the other day, and ordered eggs...they tasted soooooooo weak and poor compared to home grown eggs!

Absolutely!
I have to get ready because it looks like these will be my first hatchlings of the season... Buff Leghorns.... Go Figure!
I hear the roos are nice and mellow! I don't know about that because my marans and delaware roosters have set the
bar for Great behavior and friendliness pretty dang HIGH!

Love the color! Which is why I just had to have BO hens, and then 2 roosters. Lovely color!!

haha....of the bottom where the tray is at was what I meant. Sorry I didn't explain better. I am easily distracted the last couple of days. I went and took a pic of the hatching tray where with the cover and with the trays tilted so you can see what I've got.



excuse the rust....my machine is old, old, but still works like a charm! See how there is clearance cut out on the tilt tray above? Does your's have that?

and the eggies made their way into the bator...so 21 days from now I will have fuzzies!



have I mentioned yet I love that there is no limit to photos and PMs yet? Makes life so much easier!
