March Hatch-A-Long

Pics
Spartan22 -- Is Iceland a/k/a Freezer Camp? (sometimes known as Camp Kenmore)

For the first year our BCM rooster, Stew, was a love. Now in the Terrible Twos he's a little territorial and pushy. He charges the front door, but will eat out of your hand at the roost's backdoor. Go figure. Still have him as his chicks are stupendous (chunky) and he passes on great egg color. He also is a great guardian for his flock and, happily, the neighbors like his crowing.

Jury duty forced me to lock this week's hatch down a day early. As a result my water reservoirs were drying up(57%) a day too soon. Long ago I learned the reality of shrink wrapped chicks so this is how I add water as needed. Now back at 62%.
We're still having subzero temps so the blanket wrap helps keep the incubator stable.
Hoping to see some chicks tomorrow! 20190306_101822.jpg

I, uh, had a March hatch before I knew there was a thread or had even joined.

But my two Serama hens co-hatched me out 6 beautiful chicks, one on March 2, the other 5 on March 3. I set the clutch on Feb 11, so days 18 and 19 respectively.

AAWW, such little darlings.

Cute! What kind is the sable brown one?
The browns, reddish browns and blues, and that little black/white are all Easter Eggers.
White with black spots are leghorn x FBCM
Black copper Marans chicks and some little black sex links in there. I put different colored little leg bands on them before I put them together. as some of those EE chicks look like FBCM when they hatched since the FBCM is also their sire. All have feathered legs. The only 2 that are not from EExFBCM are those 2 Easter Eggers with chipmunk fuzzy faces. NO feathered legs.
this is the parents to the 2 sable, brownish chipmunk EE.

Speck when she was young and current young EE cockerel I haven't named.

They are adorable.

Little overachiever eggs! Day 21 is tomorrow, but this Marans chick decided to beat the others to first zip. Looks like there will be more before the day is through as I see 7 pips in the incubator.

Cute. Do you know, when they first get their wing feathers, do they have white tips. I have two chicks that I believe are from a Marans mix, so I am curious. Thank you.
