May change breeds

I sold all my serbian highflyers and still have six Fantails to sell. At the moment there are quite a few racing pigeons for sale, and some close nearby. But they are adults and I am a bit concerned with the settling time. They are from $30 each. There are also some maybe crossbred blue checkers and stuff for $5 each, I could ask the owner about the breed. If you do get old birds how long do you settle them for before you can start flying them? And what do you recommend I do? Thanks
If they have been flown at the previous loft, keep them locked in till they produce three clutches. Even then, it's a risk. But if you don't want to lose them, don't fly them! It's risky business, but I would breed all you need, (two or three clutshes) and let them loose. If they don't come back, you have their youngsters. It would help if you fly settled birds when them (the adults) first let out, so that they feel more at ease. Then they would be more likely to come home, your home!

Thanks for that info @backyard pigeons. I think I may get some king pigeons, instead of racing pigeons. My last racing pigeons I had ended up with 2 if 4 birds flying away, but to be fair I didn’t settle them long enough and they weren’t paired up with my other birds.

These are the birds I was considering getting. They seem like they could possibly be runts instead of kings. As kings hold their tails up higher and are more circular in shape usually. What do you guys think?

I Thinkk it's up to you! You seem to have been wanting some homers for awhile, but its really up to you. I personally despise kings\runts. hubbles and giant homers are really the only large pigeon I like.

I got 4 king pigeons, that’ll hopefully be two breeding pairs. I may also next weekend get those other ones that I uploaded a picture of, as the person wasn’t available this weekend.

The person sexed them by their toes, apparently hens have even toes and males have uneven ones. I have never heard of that before.

Anyways, the birds I got included:
- A recessive red
- A white (who looks a bit off)
- A pied
- A white checkered (my favourite)

They were in an overcrowded pen with a bunch of other breeds of pigeons. The white male is pretty dirty. Apparently, the fellow got the birds from Brisbane. He gave me some worming tablets for them, and told me to give them one at 4pm then give them a little food, chuck out the droppings, then tomorrow give them a normal amount until another 6 months when they need to get wormed again. I’ll be keeping the birds in quarantine for a minimum of a month (they won’t be put into the loft until the 6/11/19) just in case something is up with them. I think there’s a higher risk of them carrying a virus, although the guy who I got them off medicates and worms his birds regularly.

The white one died so now I have to disinfect everything.
