MAY Hatch-Along!!!! Let's do this!!!

Hi All!

Another day closer to hatching my first batch of ducks. (May 31 is hatch day) I woke up this morning sad. I have an incubator of 40 silkie eggs and the temp somehow spiked to 108!

It is day 4 for them. As anyone else had this happen? I know that I am probably doomed but I am grasping for a little bit of hope.

On a good note, I noticed my first pip on my first batch of frizzle polish eggs!

I have 7 eggs and today is day 20. This is also my first hatch using egg cartons so I am curious to see how that will come out.

Welcome Ukducklover, they are so addicting. I love looking outside and seeing my runners chasing bugs and my Saxonies lazing in the shade. And my bantamn ducks are so cute and colorful.. They do require work

Fowllover, I am so sorry you had a big spike. What incubator are you using? Are you sure your thermometer is right? Did you let it sit at least a day to get up to temps and stabilize? Is it near a window or ac vent? That could affect it. What temp water did you put in trays? A spike near the end of incubating is not unusual and need to be monitored carefully. Were your eggs room temperature before you put them in?

We did the test on the thermometers prior and have 3 of them in there that all read the same. The incubator had been on for 2 days prior. I think the problem I had was that the my DH turned the air off in the house last night. They are in the basement bathroom. I am going to shut the vent off in there so it doesnt impact them. I waited a day before I set the eggs. I have a hovabator 1602N

I had my Hovabator go up to about 107* early on, but all my ducklings survived. I don't know whether the thermometer was wrong or what, but it sure was scary! I hope your eggs are okay, too!

Wow!! I just set up the incubator for lockdown and decided to candle the eggs one more time. I've got an internal pip in one of the three eggs! I can't believe it! So exciting! I'm terrified that the poor baby won't be able to get out, though. If he doesn't make an external pip within about 12 hours, I'll probably poke a hole in the shell. That should be fine, right?

My first ever incubator and brooder have arrived :D Can't wait until i get some hatching eggs in 2 weeks to test them out..,. Works out very well as i should be incubating them the day my broody duck has her eggs hatch! i'm so excited. Hopefully i'll have some June babies
