MAY Hatch-Along!!!! Let's do this!!!

Out of 88 eggs I'm down to 42. Here is what's left:
2/8 of my own mixed banties
6/8 Silkies
2/3 Ameracunas
0/1 Partridge Rock
0/1 Blue Cochin (LF)
6/12 Lemon Cuckoo Orps
10/16 BYM
0/2 Coronation Sussex
1/4 Assorted Orps
6/12 Lavender Orps
0/3 Rosies (BYCer project bird)
0/3 BYM (came with the Rosies)
5/7 Call Ducks
1/2 Assorted Runner Ducks
2/2 Saxony Ducks
1/2 Black East Indie Ducks

The majority of the losses were ones that were scrambled in the mail. I eggtopsied all of the losses. A couple were infertile. A couple were early quitters. And a couple were full of bacteria growth.

The only ones I'm a bit upset about are the 2 orders that I got either NO viable eggs from or only a couple from a large order. These were the scrambled orders. I will probably contact the seller on these & see if they will replace or refund at least part of the order.

Anyway, 1 of my Banty eggs went in lockdown Saturday & is due tomorrow. 6 Silkies & 2 Ameracunas go in lockdown this afternoon. 6 Lemon Cuckoo Orps go Thursday, & the rest go the 4th, 5th & 11th with my last hatch scheduled for the 14th. Then I have more eggs shipping to start all over again.

Picture of the 13 ducks that hatched yesterday. There are still 5 more eggs but I believe the 13 will be it. Still not bad for the supposedly hard to incubate muscovy.

I have internal pips!

Kind of freaking out. I wasn't expecting to lock down until tomorrow, but I guess the ducklings had other ideas. I just removed the turner and added a sponge and spritzed the eggs. On one of the internal pips (I didn't candle all of them because I wanted to get them back in the incubator as soon as possible - should I have checked all of them?) I could hear it tapping on the shell.

Oh my goodness! I'm so excited and so worried! I hope everything goes okay. I hope they're alright since it's kind of early. How soon after internal pips usually is the actual pip?

ducklover700 - Oh well! Glad the other chicks are doing well!

WallabyofChaos - Congrats on your developing eggs!

That's so exciting! How many eggs do you have in lockdown?

All 10! Two days ago (night of the 23rd day) all were moving - I probably should have recandled them all last night but now it's too late. We'll see how it the hatch goes. I can't see the large end of all of the eggs through the window, but I haven't seen any external pips yet. I've seen two or three eggs wiggle, and I've been hearing cheeping every so often.

Two of the eggs - at least one - I'm not sure whether they'll hatch, or if they do, it might be later. The ducklings in those are smaller than the others, so I'm not sure what is going on with those - I've seen movement in both in the last couple of days, though, so they're still alive.

Nsampsel - sorry you're down to that many!

On a good note, you've still got 70% of your duck eggs, though.

WillsC - they're adorable! Congratulations!!

They'll be worth the wait! I'm kind of glad they're taking their time...I don't want them to hatch TOO early.

That said, I'm resisting the urge to go upstairs and check on 'em.

You'll be the first to hear about any progress!

Congratulations, cadams!

Been having computer blips, but here is an update. I have 4 live babies so far think the last 3 are dead in shells....But sadly, 3 of the 4 have defects (4th just hatched by self). Two seem to have a neck/spine deformity, sort of twisted hunchback type thing. The 3rd has a problem foot, seems twisted. I did put a bandaid type splint on it to try and straighten it. All these problems are related I am sure, to the problems I had in the in incubation of the 40+.... So I have 3 healthy ducklings, no problems from the 40+ and the rest ,late stage. Then of these that were staggered with them, 3 defective, 3 probably dead at pip and one not sure of yet.
I do have a few set in the other incubator, and some under broodys so we will see what transpires.
Most likely it was just too many incubation errors.Amazing the 3 "perfect ones" made it at all and the others hatched.
The Hookbill eggs are rather odd shaped, not a large and small end. One even zipped in the middle.....Heard they were hard to incubate...do have some under the broodys and in the incubator... so we'll see how they do to rule out a genetic or feed problem....
