There is a fun genetics calculator at http://kippenjungle.nl/kruising.html‎ You would have to do a little searching here to find out what the color genetics are (probably) on the birds you have, but once you plug that in it will show you what the possible offspring are.

For example I plugged in a blue rooster over a lavender hen and it showed half blue and half black as the outcome. But I can't guarantee the blue roo I plugged in is correct for a blue Orp, same for the lavender.

I am planning on obtaining a White Orpington Rooster, but all of my girls are 5 Buff Orpingtons, and 8 Buff Rocks. How can I determine the color of the egg with the cross, and how do I determine the type of the cross, I am still new to chicken keeping and I was wondering how this worked. Please reply and help me figure this out!!!

I agree, it is like guessing your Christmas present before you open it. That's the fun part :). I'm planning to breed this NN lady and silkie guy next season, we will see what will happen...

My Light Brahma hen turned out to be a rooster.

He's in with 2 Dark Brahma hens, 2 Delaware hens, an Australorp, and a Lanshan.

If we move to the larger, more rural place we're considering and I hatched eggs next spring what would those crosses be likely to look like?

One of my free range hens surprised me with these three. Not a clue what they are. I think they probably all came from the same rooster, but they are all from different mothers and they are growing really fast! Very cool patterns on their wings, I just need to go take more pictures! I definitely plan on hatching a lot more of these mixed breed chickens.
