Hey guys.. Thinking out loud and hoping for some ideas and confirmation/critique..
I'm super overwhelmed. Let me start there.
We have a small farm.. 11 hens, 3 turkeys, 5 goats.
I really HATE the idea of buying premixed feeds for 3 different species when SO MUCH overlaps and the chicken feed is awful for the goats. SO
Anybody have a premix.. or a combo of multi animal safe ingredients?
The birds all free range, the goats are confined for now but get branches from trees/ and will soon have access to some uncurated pasture (aka.. whatever is out there.. grass, a few patches of weeds, dandelions, alfalfa, some unidentified stuff but nothing dangerous.)
Goats have a mineral block (for goats with copper), free choice DE and Baking Soda.
Chickens and turkeys get a Vitamil in their water (can I sprinkle this in food.. it doesn't dilute well.. seems to sink) and Acidified copper (every 2 months for 5 days), crushed egg shells.
I know protein amounts are different for everything but grown turkeys, chickens and non producing goats seem to stay "around" 17%.
What is a good "17%" mix.
I have good prices on:
Barley
Cracked Corn
Rolled Oats
and we've bought BOSS too.
I have scratch grains but will be stopping that as soon as the bag runs out so I don't have to worry about the goats getting into it once their pen has been expanded closer to the chicken stuff.
We also have Chaffhaye here for 11.99 a 50lb bale.
At that price I've considered using Chaffhaye as the goats primary feed with a 50/50 or grasshay dry bale for extra forage (husband says we don't need it because we have so many tree branches and weeds/grass to share already.
So here was my plan A:
Chicks: Chick Starter in a Creep feeder
Poults: Wild Game feed available in the coop at night
Chickens and Grown Turkeys: Make a mix of the Barley, corn, oats, boss at 17% (any rec'd combos or ratios? I hate that part)
Goats:
Alfalfa or Alfalfa/Grass Hay Free choice:
Growing and producing Goats or as a treat for trims/vax/dewormer:
17% Mix from Chickens,
Milkers: Add Chaffhaye or Pellets for milkers (How much?)
Wow.. ok. Now tell me your thoughts. Am I way off track with this? You guys are always so awesome.
