Muscovy egg incubation

If I go by rule of beak color , it looks like I have 2 girls and a boy so far! Bleeder is still tucked away. He's not even close to ready yet.

Bleeder didn't make it. Poor thing.

The others are all out, and seem to be doing OK. One of them has a tiny bit of yolk it didn't fully absorb. Looks like a tiny red bubble. He was the last to hatch and I'm guessing he rushed because he could see his siblings running around.

The others are fine. I left them all in the incubator until the third one is ready to go in the brooder so he isn't lonely.

3 out of 11 eggs is not the best outcome, but certainly not the worst...

And.... I get to do this all over again in 4 days when the Muscovy eggs are due to hatch....

These guys are doing great!

I candled my Muscovy eggs and only saw movement in one of them :( hopefully they are just resting before their big day. They have now gone into lock down. Fingers crossed!

I'm pretty sure I lost all my Muscovy eggs. They have a weird yellow tint to them when I candle them. Some of them have what looks like to be a fluid rolling around in them, some have what look like air cells on both ends. I see no movement or veins in any of them anymore. None are moving or peeping. I guess I'll know for sure in a few more days. Tomorrow is technically hatch day, but I don't think I will have any more ducklings this year :(

I tried to ask my neighbors to replace the incubator and eggs their son broke and told them not to worry about the damage to my wall, shelf or statue. They just laughed at me and said I won't see a dime from them.

*sigh*

well, all the Muscovy eggs were dead. The incubator was starting to smell, so I decided to crack them all open and do an egg topsy. They were beautiful fully formed chicks that never absorbed the yolk. My guess is they got messed up with the humidity problems I was having. I was lucky to have the three Welsh Harlequin hatch. At least they are cute and doing well.

Muscovy eggs are notoriously more difficult to hatch in an incubator. My luck with 3 attempts has been less than stellar. All of my eggs ended up shrink wrapped (my humidity was 75% as well)- I have wondered if it is the forced air incubators that are doing it and that maybe duck eggs are more susceptible to issues with it vs chicken eggs. If I ever attempt to incubate again, I am going to do a side by side incubation, one with my Brinsea Ex and one with a still air incubator and see how that works. Of course, next year I will hopefully have plenty of wanna be mamas to do all the work for me! All of mine are 12 weeks and under now.
