Howdy BYC!

Tonight was hatch day for the last set of shipped eggs for the year. I won an auction I didn't expect to win for some bearded silkies and, after using HatchBright liberally almost every day when I opened the lid, I had a perfect hatch in my incubator, my very first ever!

I am so elated I am just beyond the moon.

The little golden partridge who's most fluffed up seems to have some toes curling under her feet that I may have to bandage but otherwise, everyone is doing fantastic! Only 1 required a full assist on the hatch and that was due to a large pip hole and excessive drying on the membrane. I can't believe I actually managed a perfect hatch on shipped eggs though! These guys had some WILD saddle cells and deformations from shipping by air but I guess it just goes to show you just how resilient these little guys can be, especially when you use a product like HatchBright to help them hatch out heavier, healthier, and with better vein growth throughout incubation.

So... anyone have any ideas what colors we might be looking at? We think we've got some partridges, maybe a black, a few gray or blue, and some of the red/chocolate colored ones with the black undercoat? Apologies if I'm way off base, please excuse my ignorance! I'm just starting to learn about the genetics behind silkie colors and we're trying to work on a project to create a specific look with these guys so we're learning as we go along.

Any advice about what possible colors we might be looking at is greatly appreciated! And if anyone has any idea how I can help treat the little partridge with the two toes curling under the food, PLEASE let me know what I can do! She's just walking on top of them, like it's no big deal. Everyone else's toes look great!

Thanks for letting me share everyone! This is my most successful hatch, ever, and I'm so proud to be able to share it with you all!

Congratulations! :wee
I had 14/15 silkies hatch earlier this year. Looks like you have a few partridge (chipmunk stripes) and several black. Post new photos with better lighting when they are all fluffed up for better color guesses! Little cutie fluff nuggets!:love

:celebrate
Thanks so much everyone! I'll take some better pics of everyone this afternoon and post. There's one or two who look extremely black and then a few others who have either a silver or blond look to the tips of their feathers, a lot like what I saw when their older sister hatched (she's below with the dark brown/reddish coloring over the black). I will try to get a pic of all the new babies in better light now that they should be all fluffed up this morning. This particular seller provided me with eggs that hatched out this beautiful stripe-y looking silver partridge and a chocolate/very deep red looking partridge? She has very deep browns on top of a black undercoat. Plus her all white little bro bro. So I expected some more partridge but not as much as I got! My last one did not hatch out with the chipmunk stripes so I was really confused when I saw those 😆

This is the one I believe is a silver partridge and who had the biggest crest at birth.

She's the one with that I assume will look like one of very reddish/chocolate-y brown partridge color (and please correct if I'm wrong!)

Then little ol' Marshmallow with the other two behind him, heh.

So that's who popped out of the last shipment of eggs and though Marshmallow doesn't have much of a crest, the ones on Graham and Hershey are HUGE and I thought they were all colored very nicely.

This is so exciting! My first Serama hatch this year, only 3/9 even wound up being fertile and then only 2 hatched so I haven't had the greatest luck with high hatch rates on shipped eggs but this just blew me out of the water. It figures that on the one hatch I already resigned myself to thinking would be low, something like this winds up happening :jumpy Chickens, man! Always surprising you in the best ways!

Congratulations on your hatch! I have never had any eggs shipped to me before, but from what I have heard, you are very lucky!

Here is a link telling how to fix curled toes: https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...s-with-tape-picture-tutorial-and-video.75247/

I'm not very good with advanced silkie colors (yet!), but I'll tag @LynnaePB. I am not at my sharpest right now so I can't remember many other members who keep silkies :idunno

Thank you so much! This most definitely looks doable! She's the only one and she hatched out the largest so maybe she was squished inside that egg. Now I just gotta figure out if I have masking tape sitting out or if I should go pick some up at Walmart on my way home 😊

Ok! Took some pics in better lighting so here's everyone 🐣

Two of the dark ones. Guessing black but they've both got the silver/blond tips on the end that Hershey, from the last batch, had as well so don't know if fully black or if they'll have the black undercoat and some silver or blond on top!
20201002_140235.jpg

This is the third "black" one but we notice a lot of grayish blue? So that's the one we suspect isn't going to be black 😊
20201002_140043.jpg

This is one of my suspected chocolates!
20201002_135904.jpg

This is the other chocolate-y looking gal and one of the chipmunk partridges! Of course both can't look at me at the same time 😆
20201002_135846.jpg

A better look at the other little brown one...
20201002_101611.jpg

And then this is the first one to hatch, the little chipmunk partridge with the curly toes. I've got her little "sandals" on already 🤗 Stopped at Walmart for masking tape first thing this morning to give her the best shot at fixing this!

I will add more photos as they grow! Thanks everyone for your very kind and gracious comments. They mean a lot to me ❤️ I feel like I worked so hard to get to this point!

First two look black, third one likely silver partridge, Chipmunk striped ones (all of them) are also likely brown based partridge. Chococlate one will likely stay that color. Other multicolor one (lighter brown) just may end up being calico or possibly white. I had a lighter one that I thought was a calico and feathered in all white.:)
They are all so adorable!:love
