My Old Boi Scrappy

So I have this old Japanese Quail who turns 4 on the 11th of November and he is still going strong.
Many people find it crazy just how tame he is, as he'll happily take a nap on you and loves attention, as long as his dustbathing time isn't disturbed. :p You could probably do anything to this bird and he'd just be as chill as a Capybara, he can go outside without needing a pen (ofc he is supervised) as he won't go too far away from you and is absurdly easy to just walk up to and pick up, and he loves to play either with a hand, or chasing a stick like a cat. He also has a Diamond Dove named Lulu as a boyfriend.

I was given a little diamond dove, the lady who had it passed away. I miss that girl. Actually thought it was a boy, till she laid an egg!

I know Lulu is a boy as I had a female who sadly got egg bound and passed away years ago that was his mate, which led to him attaching to the quail and later becoming an oddly shaped quail himself. He runs from your hand rather than flying away, like a little mouse, and rarely perches.

He used to act like a normal diamond dove when I got him and his mate, but after she passed, it was a gradual transformation as he was assimilated by my painted quail, and then Scrappy.

If I could find them local to me, I'd have an aviary filled with them!

Over here they aren't exactly common or rare, more of an uncommon birb. I got mine from a pet store that does all sorts of birds, rodents and reptiles and accepts from local breeders as long as they are up to standard. Used to sell my excess painted quails to them. XD

Guess who just turned 4 today! 🥳

Old man Scraps isn't quite sure on how to feel about these hairy potato whippersnappers quite yet, and they had a rough start since Percy (black and white fuzzbutt) accidentally pushed Scrappy off the bed when sniffing. 😆 But other than that, they appear to get along with close supervision during free-roam time.
