My Pet Chicken

As far as keeping them warm on the drive home, the little handwarmer packs hunters and such use work GREAT!!!!

And they are CHEAP.

I ordered 24 Blue Ameracauna eggs, they cost $50.00 per dozen, so that was $100.00 plus shipping which was another $32.00 so I paid $132.00 and hatched out 15, so divide that and I paid $8.80 per live chick. Will I order eggs from there again, no, I ordered eggs from a BYC member and he sent me 30 Wyandotte eggs, 10 BRW. 2CW, and 16 BW, he charged me $5.00 a dozen plus shipping for a grand total of under $25.00.

Right on.

I think it's worth the time, effort and drive to get to know a local breeder to make sure you are getting quality eggs or chicks. There's so much to choose from. I'm very happy with the breeders I've worked with, not so happy with the mediocre hatchery stock I got when my kids begged me to at the feed store! They are cute and of course awesome because they are chickens, but not as true to type as my breeder stock.

Have fun!!!!

I've ordered from them with no problem as far as the chicks are concerned...no sexing problems and no DOA's...the chicks are very friendly and suprisingly calm...and they've matured into ultra friendly and calm girls...I have a RIR's and Australorps, Easter Eggers, Orpingtons...My only issue with them is customer service...

If you request a change that they are able to complete on their side but your cc is declined when they try to process the payment, you are still responsible for the $10 change fee.....this isn't noted anywhere on their site. I was under the impression that a change is not complete nor successful until the payment is processed. Not so with My Pet Chicken. They view a change successful as long as they are able to do it on their side. They need to disclose this so customers are aware. I checked them out on the BBB and they have an A rating and only one other complaint and that too was a policy or refund issue...other than that, I have no complaints about their chicks or shipping methods...

We have not ordered chickens or chicks from MPC, we ordered a coop. They were unbelievably helpful getting it to the depot (so we did not have to pay shipping) and then shipping us a new coop roof when the one we got was damaged.
Their price for chicks and shipping did seem extremely high.
My daughter and I found a local breeder of EEs on Craigslist last year and we went back to her this year. She's expanded her stock and is breeding her own French copper Marans and Olive Eggers. She has a small flock of Mille fleur d'uccles too. I wish I had the space she does! Since she was ordering chicks from a large hatchery, she offered to include a few special bantams for my daughter. Now we wait for the delivery. I feel like a grandmother to be....

I ordered 9 last year of a variety of standard sized pullets. All were pullets, all healthy on arrival ( mid april in massachusetts) and all grew up to be friendly healthy chickens. I lost 3 to hawks this fall but 4 of the six remaining (BA, EE, Welsummer and Barred Rock) lay an average of 5 eggs weekly. The Australorp actually layed 14 of the last 16 days! No complaints here!

Here is my super layer !
