My simple laundry sink fodder growing setup.

I saw a growing system out of dollar store small tubs. Forgot to pin it and have been seaching for days to find another simple one. Thanks so much, I have ordered 100's of barley seed and we have several tons of oats for our horses. This will give me enough to feed our nine girls and 9 ducks at our sons place. I am also takeing care of 9 other girls that belong to a friend while they are on vacation for 6 weeks. This will be a nice treat for them. I took over some 4th cutting hay it was ok for them but not really happy about my offering. Thanks again

Mine is out of the dollar store tubs. I just drilled holes in the bottom and put them in one of our unused bathtubs. :) Growing well!

Fabulous! Think I'm going to give this a shot until I get my greehouse built. Already have some wheat seeds and BOSS. Gonna get started this weekend. Thanks!

Here's my extra simple fodder system, for those of you who don't know fodder Is basically grass. I use a mixture of barley and oats.

It makes perfect sense when this is what it looks like outside for 5+ months of the year

I use four stacking trays. Here they are collapsed as they normally sit inside my laundry room sink.

Here they are stacked on top of each other just to get a look at the different stages of growth. New soaked seeds go in the bottom.

I've drilled several holes to allow water on top drain all the way through the levels and then down the drain in the sink

It's been lots of fun and I thoroughly encourage anyone to start growing fodder!

so this is just a layer of seeds ... and the roots grow together to form a "mat" of sorts that you can toss in their run. Looks like a great idea!

sounds great, I am getting some barley seed and have a ton of oats that we feed our horses. my husband won't miss a bucket full. lol

I now live in Costa Rica, we get lots of rain but we had 8 turkeys that stripped the good things in the yard, now only have some kind of weed that defies the chickens, must not taste very good. I will find some trays and give this a try. I am now fermenting the regular feed but this would give them some good greens. No barley here but am able to buy wheat and oats, expensive, about $.75 USD a pound but then good eggs here are very expensive too so it is a good trade off. I will post back how things go and once I have a workable setup I will post photos. I can get sun flower seeds but no idea if they a the "boss" type as they are used to feed parrots but I will try them to see if they sprout.
