Oh - and I forgot to add the important part. We think we figured out what happened, yesterday. Miss Piggy, the top hen, was the gang leader. This morning, we found her "gone broody" on a single egg. Apparently, the exploring babies ventured too close to her chosen nest site ... and paid dearly for it.
I'll try to get a good picture of Piggy's stink-eye. And we thought Pepper had a potent one ...

update on the babies, 2 weeks wednesday, have noticed 2 with no tails yet, are those my roos? Meanwhile they are swamping mama, i am an artist so they live in the studio in a dog pen, looked over and saw this lol

:( No wonder why people in Canada charge so much for their American imports :hmm
Yea have a friend that ordered from a breeder in Florida, got to the border, no go, she went and picked them up in the states, couldn't bring them in even with vet certifications etc. Finally we found someone in the states to take them and hatch them, she never could get them in-

I wonder how some Canadians do it

i don't know, but border check, thats what we call it here, was not gentle with those eggs at all- maybe check with local chicken groups and see what they do to get them in?
