Ah, ok. Ive had sparrow babies short term, until a rehaber could meet me to take them. 3 days... and wow... seemed like constant feedings during the day.
Im glad you let us know. Im used to chicks, ducks, geese etc... noisy lil buggers..![]()
. I used a digital kitchen scale to weigh 'Doo' before and after each feeding to corroborate what I thought I was seeing. He grew very cooperative with this ritual associated with feeding. lol Thats not bad at all. About like bottle feeding orphaned squirrels...With a new hatch pigeon I'm not sure how often to feed. As @LamarshFish pointed out it is best to let the crop empty before feeding again. I doubt they will take more than 4 per day but. By the time the are 10 days 2 good feeds seemed to do the trick.

Had to look up what chicken math was lol! And yes that could be a possibility ha! Ive been finding it a bit difficult to find good information on hatching pigeon eggs and some conflicting things such as the feeding! Like yourself @biophiliac some say 4 times a day but i found a site that said every 2 hours :O!! I will go with your advice though ha! Also would you all feed your chicks through the night or is that not necessary? I dont imagine the parents would be doing feeds during the night?
i remember when i first read that term here. I had to go look it up too.. and its the perfect phrase for raising chickens and most other birds.

Oh I was hoping you'd say that!!Looking good! The pic looks like it will be able to push out when it’s ready, or at least with minimal more assistance![]()

I don't think they feed during the night. Try to give them a dark period. I put a small piece of fleece over the nest bowl to mimic the warmth of mom.Had to look up what chicken math was lol! the blood vessels are receeding well, i can only see a few near his bum so i'd imagine once they're gone his yolk sac will be absorbed too and he'll be ready to hatch!! Okay, yes i will make sure the formula is not too warm, i shall do the wrist test lol! Im going to use a syringe with a glove over it so i can replicate his parents as much as i can. I will keep an eye on him and make sure he doesnt get too chilly
