Nevadans?

OK let's see if I can get a few pics to post.

I am really frustrated with this new platform! Adding pics used to be so easy! I'm giving up now before I throw something!!!!!

My computer is running again, Dell shipped the new hard drive overnight, and a tech came and put it in. Still a blank slate. I highly recommend, encourage, and suggest that everyone backs up there computer some how. My last back up for the overall system was on the 25th of July, luckily my Quicken was backed up on the 10th of Aug. However I lost ALL my music.

So, life is getting back to normalcy, whatever that is. Now for the garden tomorrow.
Picked up some swiss chard and spinach,

hoping they will sprout!

Now for the little ladies... with the 16 hens we are averaging 12 eggs a day, they are just now 6 1/2 mos. My husband actually sold some of these medium sized eggs to some fellow co workers and we actually earned some money this week. I am very grateful to these hens.

So, there is my ramble for now....

You can do:
-pears canned in apple juice with cinnamon (about the healthiest way you can)
-pear jam (recipe inside a box of SureJel)
Pear recipes in my Ball canning book: (let me know if you want any of these and I'll type them out)
-autumn cranberry pear jam
-carrot cake jam
-cinnamon pear quick jam
-ginger pear marmalade
-gingery peach pear freezer jam
-hot n' sweet chili sauce
-pear butter
-pear jam
-pears in syrup
-peppery pear salsa
-pear pickles
-spirited pears
-summer fruit cocktail
-seasoned pear almond conserve

Last year the spanish market near me sold pears at 4#/$1. I went kinda crazy and made tons of jam. I made 9 different recipes. Some I totally loved and others I will pass on. I really recommend pear butter. It is sooooooo delish over vanilla ice cream or on pancakes!!! Some of the "hits" were....

Pear Orange Marmalade
Pear Butter (smooth and just delicious)
Pear Lime Jam (this one is so pretty with flecks of green floating a beautiful light yellow jam...yummy too!)
Pear Vanilla Jam (uses vanilla bean)
Spiced Caramel Pear Jam (similar to the pear butter but textured differently)
and Gingered Pear Jam (called for candied ginger...I used ground, was still delish)

I'd be happy to share the recipes.

I want the first 2 recipes...autumn cranberry pear and carrot cake.

Arrgh! I was up early this morning (pre-7:00 a.m.) and opened the screen door to let in a little fresh air when what did I hear? Yep. Unmistakeable. One of my neighbors has chickens. Or, to be more exact, a rooster. It's either the folks kitty-corner across the street (outside of the HOA community) or my next-door neighbor. After all the rigamarole I went through trying to be legit keeping chickens and being denied by the HOA...sheesh & sigh. What's even more ironic is that I'll probably have the finger pointed at ME if the neighbors complain!

I can hardly wait to move.

(And, no, I'm not going to narc 'em out even though rooster-keeping is illegal in Henderson. Honestly, I thought somebody had let their hyperactive kids out at tad early in the morning to discharge until I opened the door and *really* listened)

BOOOOOOOO!!!!! That's just wrong!

Edited because I can't spell and spell check didn't help...it was a grammar thing.

Lucky I average. 1-0 for nine chickens unless you count eggs without a shell chase I got my second today

I'm still waiting on my other ameraucana to lay, so you're not alone. Plus, none of the Ideal group have started, though some are squatting. It's still pretty early, though!

Hi everyone! I'm back now. The kids just left a bit ago to go back home. I just had the best visit from them, it was better than I ever could have imagine.
Missy,
I have been pressure canning for a couple of years now. My kids love home canned pinto beans, made into "refried" beans. I have pressure canned green beans, corn, and I am sure other things. I have never canned meats, but would like to. A friend just learned how can tuna, she said it was very very simple. So, go for it... start pressure canning.

Jann - I have a pressure canner but I'm so afraid to use it. Perhaps you can show me how?

I'm going back 7 pages to catch up so sorry if I'm repeating anything.

Check out this picture of my bee hive I took a couple of nights ago:

I sent it to the guy I got the bees from and he says it is called "bearding". He says it is a sign of a strong, populous colony just trying to keep cool in the August heat. They have pretty much filled both of those boxes (they're called supers - these ones are known as brood supers because the queen lays eggs in them) with comb, pollen and honey. The bee guy estimates there is 60-70 lbs. of honey in there.

ETA: Back to reading - only 10 pages back now!

Wow Ron, your bees are really great! If only I had the land to have bees!
