Nevadans?

OK no mulitquotes again... Let's see if I can remember everyone's posts. Come on up anytime Aubrey! I'm home now but tomorrow will be pretty busy. Congrats on hitting 5,000!!! OK Pam I will try to send them to you. There are so many now, they have been building up. I'll start with the flock pics and if they are easy for you to post then I will send the coop construction pics and the puppy pics. Such a cute story about your DGD! I love that! Ron we use Verizon cause we have heard so many horror stories about the folks that offer the landline services up here. We could go with Hughes Net but they get the same raving marks. :/ Missy, the EEs I got from Pam are gorgeous! More like a splash coloring. White with splashes of color (some more than others) and wonderful personalities! They are all laying now and I am thrilled with my jump in egg production since they started to lay. The eggs are all a very pretty light to dark green. No brown eggs in the whole bunch! Hopefully she can post these pics I'm emailing her so you can see them or you can peek in on them when you come by the end of next week. And the dark olive colored egg was from her's as well. I am going to put Mr. Friendly in with them then the eggs I get from this girl should hatch out solid OE chicks since they will be second generation. :D Dee my DD tried to look it up for me and what she found was that many folks are asking for that recipe! The seasonings they use for their broccoli and their soup are top secret and no one has been able to replicate it... so far. These things have a way of coming out over time. I subscribe to a blog that specializes in recreating restaurant favorites and I've got my eyes peeled on that site to see if that one pops up. I need to google Ecuadorian Trucha (fresh fish) spices as well. OMG I am craving their fish! Big time! I could have eaten it for lunch and dinner every day (and **** near did!). It could just be their abundance of super fresh food though and have nothing to do with the spices they used. In which case I am out of luck, we just don't have that available here. Sheryl she (the doc) said the drum had not burst. The surrounding infection however was the worst she had seen in a very long time. I was very relieved that the ear drum was OK. I have great hearing and would hate to lose that. Though I would fit right in around here if I did. Both Steve and my Dad are losing their hearing so I spend a lot of time repeating myself... loudly... again and again.

I just tried the multi -quotes again and at first I thought I lost them all because when I clicked to say okay this is the last quote it brought me to the top of the page. I said okay where did it go and they were all in the box. I don't know if that's what is going on with you Sunny but perhaps?

Hello Everyone!! Gotta catch up on 100+ posts( I was camping) But for now i have a funny story
So the other day i was gardening with my polish bantam named Yhang (avatar) and when i got up to leave she followed me all across the yard
lau.gif
! I guess shes a little Too attached to me.She also wants to be held, like, 24/7! I love her so much.

Amanda is like that too. I think she would love to go camping with us!

Awww, sweet! How old is she? I have an exchequer leghorn that is a big baby, though I expected her to be one of the flightiest ones because of breed. We cuddle just about every time I go outside, and she could probably get away with just about anything around the yard. I already look the other way when she flies into the garden.

We got a new pullet laying today, and I'm pretty sure it's Fried Rice the speckled sussex. The egg was kind of a greenish off-white color. But since she was the one camping out in the nesting boxes and singing for 2 hours, I figure it was her. ...Though I did find the egg on the other end of the yard. That's what my turken did yesterday... sit in a box for 2 hours, then get up and travel to the other side of the yard and drop her first egg on the dirt.

I don't know who was in the box though but she sure was singing her heart out. The egg was laid after the singing though.

Unfortunately when you get the recipe from FoodNetwork.com they don't give you all of his explanations - plus, some things you just have to see how they are done (like peeling the beets!). The pickled eggs sounds really cool - I'll have to try it! I'll let you know how it comes out.

I've heard folks around here either rave about Verizon or rant about it. But it seems to come down to whether they are using the 4G (rave) or 3G (rant) service. Which one are you using?

I know I looked up a recipe I saw on the tv and noticed the same thing. I wish they would put the actual show on there so we can see how they do everything and not miss it. I can't wait to see how they come out. I'm still dying to try it myself.
That's what I thought, too. This egg was the oddest color, almost like a super light olive. Sheryl saw it and said it's definitely not from my lavender ameraucana. You know, it was kind of the color I'd expect a duck egg to be. But a little larger than a robin's egg.

I'd take a picture, but I just gave a dozen eggs to a friend who gave me some chicken food, and that one was in it. Oh well.

It didn't look like the LA was even attempting to lay but then again sometimes eggs just pop right out.

Oh my gosh everyone! John and I picked 65lbs of grapes, yep we weighed them once we got home. I can not believe it. It gave me 8 gallons of juice for jelly and juice to drink. I'm in food heaven right now. I can't wait to process the jelly's.
BWWAAAAHHHAAAHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! Just spewed wine out my nose reading this!

That must have burned too but the picture I'm seeing almost made me spew my coffee.
lau.gif

AHAHAHAHA!!!! That is NOT the way wine is supposed to go! LOL!

Rain! I got rain last night! It smells nice but I'm not looking forward to walking on the wet earth. It really stacks up on the bottoms of your shoes!
gig.gif
I keep getting taller and taller... which would be a good thing... if it didn't make such a mess!
barnie.gif
We need the rain though, so I'm not complaining.

On another note... a sad one. I'm not looking for sympathy but I need to talk about my broken heart just a little bit.

I had to cull one of my very favorite hens yesterday. She was coughing/sneezing and not eating and standing in the corner. She was so beautiful. When she was a chick, I would sit on a chair out in her pen and she would jump up on my lap so I could pet her. That's been a long time ago now but she was still the most beautiful hen in my yard. Every time I walked by she would catch my eye... I'd check and say, "yep, it's Kephtzibah, who else would it be?" But I checked my records and I have a couple daughters from her, several grand daughters this year and one son this year too so hopefully I haven't lost her altogether. I dug around til I found a picture of her last night; she is my new avatar. It might take me a while to get over her, I've been weepy off and on since the night before last. I'm really going to miss seeing her out there.

I love the rain! We got it as well.

I'm so sorry about your little hen!

Drum roll please........Sunny emailed her pics and now we get to see some of her chickens!

Oh how pretty Sunny! You have a really beautiful flock!

That's how it was with Finger the minorca. Two other pullets had been dancing around the nesting box for weeks, then I see Finger in the box and out pops an egg. Ok... however they want to give me their eggs is fine with me, as long as they do it safely and responsibly.

8 gallons from just those???? WOW. Last year I got 9 gallons from ALL the grapes, including the concords. And like I said, the friend before you took about twice what you took. She didn't weigh hers or juice them (used a whole-grape bottling technique) so I don't know how much juice she would have gotten.

We'll see today how much juice I get from the concords. I also have to finish the pears, juice some plums, roast up 5 pumpkins that are getting too flexible for storage (did 6 last night), blanch some swiss chard, and turn this extra zucchini and bananas into bread to put in the freezer, before those go bad. I need 6 more eggs for the bread, but I think I can count on that today.

Oh, and one of the drakes figured out how to get through the doggie door and eat the dogs' food. Tater just sat there glaring at him, with an expression like, "Is nothing sacred now?" I don't mind if she asserts herself and kicks any of the poultry out of the house, as long as she doesn't hurt any of them. But she knows she can't retaliate, so they don't get more than a lip curl.

Sunny, your chickens are so beautiful! I love the paint Polish. Thanks, Pam, for posting!

Yes, I really did get 8 gallons. Not sure what she did but I boiled it and pressed it through the mill and then put it all back into my jelly bags and let it hang to get the rest of the drippings. I was shocked.

That's what I did last year to get 9 gallons. But the growing season this year has been phenomenal! I'm really floored with the bounty we have here.

Thank goodness we finally got some rain! It rained all night up here. Went to let Sampson and Delilah out at 5:40 this morning and it was beautiful!!! Smelled wonderful and the sky was just gorgeous! I could see the stars and the clouds were all moving off to the east.

Of course we don't have to deal with the mud up here. The rain just means we can walk on the sand without getting all dusty. Mmmmm rain only at night. It's like living in Camelot. lol

So sorry to hear of your loss. It's like losing an old friend. So sweet that she will live on in your Avatar pic!

And the rain is great, isn't it? I have so much canning to do today, it's so nice that I don't have to walk over to the other garden and water it. (But apparently I have time to sit on the internet.

hahaha We are all guilty of that now aren't we?

No when I say Multi-quotes isn't working for me, I mean when I hit the last button ("post a reply" or "quote") that the reply box comes up but it is completely empty. Nothing there at all. It has been working for quite some time now. Not sure why the same old problems keep resurfacing.
When it does happen it seems to be a sitewide thing that lasts for a few minutes or longer (judging from the posts I read from folks trying to post at the same time as me).

Thanks for the compliments on the flock! That is a tiny sampling of the 70+ birds we have right now but when it is hot out it is hard to get them to come out for pictures. Even when I try to bribe them with grapes, they will just grab them and run back to shade so fast that I can't get a good pic. Oh well. Can't blame them for that. If I were wearing a feathered coat I wouldn't want to be in the hot sun either.

Thanks Missy! I love the splash too! I got those from Pam and I hope to get more next spring. :)

LOVE your polish! Are some of them bantams?
Nope they are large fowl. I know they look smaller in the picture with the grapes but those grapes were really huge! I love that little frizzle girl too!!! She cracks me up every day! She is so curious and entertaining. It's almost like she enjoys making us laugh cause she will work hard for it then seems pleased when we do laugh! IDK - that's a stretch I know but I can't explain why she does the things she does unless she is consciously trying to make us laugh!

OK, I scored big time today! I had called GitLost80 a while back (turns out it was about the time she was having her baby) to get some more lav orps and maybe another frizzled cochin and she calls to say she just found my message and is getting rid of all her lavender orps!!! I just went and picked up 3 older pullets and three babies and I also got a cochin cockerel that I can make frizzled cochins when mated to my frizzled cochin girl (in the above pics). I am so excited!!!!!
