Nevadans?

I don't think there is a really safe way to clean an oven! "Continuous clean" has a toxic film on it that is dangerous for food. And oven cleaner is full of fumes, too.

Once again, we consider the merits of a pot-belly stove. Seriously, there are times it's sounded so pleasant.
lol My grandmother cooked on one for a bit when I was a kid. She said those things were horrible. Hard to keep the cooking temps even and a lot of work to keep refueled. I assume you mean the old firewood fed ones and not the new reproduction lookalikes.

I never had self cleaning ovens until about 15 years ago and the self cleaning ovens are still a miracle to me. Love them. Don't ever want to go back to cleaning ovens with that horrible stinky spray stuff!

Then again I have done a fair amount of cooking on a camp fire and although it is definitely a challenge, it is not too bad once you get the hang of it. I've turned out some delicious stews and chilis while camping. I can even cook eggs and pancakes on a campfire but I have to hold the pan above the fire the whole time and my wrist gets tired after awhile. So I guess it's just a matter of what you get used to.

Yep, that's what I mean! Am I the only weird one here who wants to be able to do MORE work just to make life simpler?

Question for everyone: I know most of us are pretty full on the chicken count right now, but is anyone interested in rescuing 3 hens and a rooster? They're living in a vacant house a couple blocks uphill from me. The house has been vacant for years, but a squatter has been living there. He recently got ejected from the house, but there are chickens running around inside and nobody seems to be taking care of them. The neighbors have been "letting themselves in" to feed the chickens, but they need a humane home.

I told her I could only take hens, and only if they're young enough to earn their keep.

One of the neighbors is a friend of mine, and I offered to give her the name of another friend who has pythons (HUGE ones!) and she's fine with that, but doesn't know how the other neighbors will react. They just want to save the chickens.

Honestly, if they can manage to leave the chickens in the house, with food and water, until they find a home, that's probably the most humane thing. They're sheltered from weather and predators.

Hope someone will take the chickens. I obviously can't take any more on right now.

here are the halloween costumes. there was a literacy night at school tonight and the kids got to wear their costumes. they had fun.

I love the head! They're so cute!

This was my project this week. I heard there was a pumpkin decorating contest at our church trunk-or-treat tomorrow. I took that as a challenge. Sahara is cooking for the chili cookoff.

that's beautiful. weren't you saying that you don't carve pumpkins very well a few pages back? well, I wouldn't worry about it if you can paint them like that! My one and only pumpkin painting project was in 6th grade. I had an awesome teacher and we always did cool things. I painted Garfield the cat on my pumpkin and it turned out really cute.
