Nevadans?

Oh and you heard Mandy's answer (yea!) and Genny said it sounds like fun depending on weather (yea!). Haven't heard from C yet. I checked the weather and it said high of 52 and partly sunny. Well that is for my area it might be a bit warmer in town. We might want to get a count a few days before the show and call Carrows a day ahead of time to let them know we will be coming in with a large party.

I pmed Gitlost80, Genny and Mandy (hi Mandy!). What about Tyler and Lacey? It would sure be great if they could make it too! I miss them!

Ooh I forgot about Lacey. I'll text her.

ETA: I left Tyler a Facebook message, but I only have the alternate persona. Sunny or Aubrey or Sheryl, do you have his other one?

I think that's a super good idea, especially if we intend to bring families and stuff.
Ok, I'm confirmed for me plus three (or four, if our other child tags along.)

last I heard tyler got kicked out on the street by his mom

And we had a rabbit show today and i did well so i am happy

for Tyler.

for you!

for Lacey because she says she's really sorry she can't make it... because she's working extra weekend shifts so she can finally go to college! I'm really happy for her.

for Sahara's cooking! Chicken breast and basil alfredo over rice! Mmmmm I'm lucky to have an awesome daughter.

I discovered the heat lamp in the coop was burned out today. I only knew 'cause it was so cold that it should have been on, but it wasn't. That may help explain why I only had 3 eggs today! Plus I still hadn't closed the windows yet. It's difficult to get anyhting doen out there when it's dark when I leave and dark when I get home during the week. Should be nice and toasty in there tonight! Hopefully production will start to pick up again as, like many of you, I have folks clamoring for egg orders that I can't fill.

ETA: I am only one for Carrow's.

ETAA: Wow, that sounds delicious Missy!

I believe he checks his alternate often so that should be fine. I'll pm his other though.

4 for sure, noted.
Put me down for two, possibly four. I'll confirm in a day or so on the four... but definitely two.
+ 2 for sure, added.

Yes we know about Tyler's problem with his parents and he was doing quite well last I heard. I'd rather not focus on gossip here though. If he wants to share details about his personal situation that's fine.

YEA!!! For Lacey! She's gonna love college and she'll be an awesome student! But boo she won't be there.

Yum Sahara, that sounds good!

+1, got it. Hope you get more eggs soon.

It will be 3 at carrow's for my family. Jose has to miss all the fun this time since he's working.

I took the kids to the free second saturday at the nv museum of art. the focus was Native American Art. there was a Native American art exhibit that was very nice. the artists were mainly local/regional. there was a storytelling presentation by a man from the Pauite band from Pyramid and a dance and drumming presentation. the kids got to make some baskets and we had lunch (super slooow service in that cafe, by the way). Good day and very interesting.

this afternoon i put in a closet system in soren's room. it's shelf track by closet maid and you can buy it at Home depot. you can buy the various parts to custom design the closet you want. this is the 4th one I've done in our house--all our bedrooms are done now. anyway, it's super sturdy and I got it done quite fast since I have done it so many times before. it turned out good and it makes it so much more organized.

i've been getting 6-9 eggs a day out of my 30. i still have several 1 year olds molting. i did put a light on a timer in the coop this week. not sure if that will really help.
I ordered a mixed flock:
2 white silkies (just in case one turned out to be a boy)
1 speckled sussex
1 australorp
1 easter egger
and 1 barred rock
sorry about your buff orp but how exciting for your new chicks in the spring!
Congrats on the new chicks coming Tolipgirl! I'm only getting 2 eggs a day from my 60+ chickens so I feel your pain. OK so several are roos and others aren't old enough but STILL! I went from 2 dozen eggs a day to 2! 2!!!

hope those hens step up production soon!
2??? I'm still getting about 8 a day, and that includes the duck eggs. So about 6 a day, from 18 layers. As soon as I have a little cash, I'm going to go buy some lighting and a timer for the coop, and see if that helps.
try to get your light very soon. i just read that once the day length drops, it might be too late to help production. I put mine in this week. not sure if it will help or not.
A light isn't helping my egg production.
hmm.png
Or maybe it is - and it could be a lot worse! Virtually all of the chicks I got last year are molting at the same time. So that is all of my EEs, plus the BOs and SLWs. And 'Tude and Sis have both decided that they are not only not broody anymore, but they're on strike from laying! So I'm not getting anything but brown eggs from my two year ago flock. They all lay very large to downright huge brown eggs though, so that's a plus. Production is definitely less than half of normal - maybe only a third. I have my light plugged into a thermocube, so it comes on when the temp goes below 35º and goes off above 45º.
hope your egg production picks up too. glad you will be at the meet up.
OK, Steve and I decided to get 1! Yea!!! I'll let you all know if they help. I like that they are LEDs. Much less risk of coop fire though they wouldn't help for keeping young chicks warm. But that's not what I'm looking for in this case. I can't wait to get it! It's like Christmas is coming early except this is a way cooler present than I usually get. hahaha! (don't tell my kids I said that)
clap.gif
I'm all for practical presents.
So tomorrow is our big day for the most amount of work done on the new run. I am hoping to get it all done and have the door cut so they can come out to play a bit before bed time. If not then they will have put up with all the noise and fuss for nothing another day. The weather was totally no fun the last few days so i'll have to pull out the sweat shirts so we don't freeze. The upside... We won't get HOT!
hope you got lots done.
We're getting a new Springer Spaniel puppy in two weeks! I can't wait. I feel like Santa is coming early!
how exciting!
Every one sure is talkable around here. I come on when I can and only read because I'm getting so much done right now. Oh and let me tell you all what I'm going through. I'm having a good raccoon issue atm. It's a mother with 2 little ones. They are being very sly and you can't really see them very often, so far only once, but they are here. Leroy has done the danger call twice now. The first time one of the 4 locks was undone on the egg door. We now have master locks on our coop doors. We must use keys to get the flock out. Not good for emergencies but they are safe. We set a small trap, like for squirrels, to capture the babies. Nope, only mom went in there and she brought the bait out so everyone could eat it up, without setting off the trap. I now have a larger trap on order. I really need to get these guys. They are really trying hard to tear at anything they can to get into the coop. Everything has held wonderfully. I can't believe how well it's surviving this attack on them.
rant.gif
nasty racoons! i have pad locks on all my doors too. hope you can trap them soon.
And here's Sahara, performing step 2 of the apple cider vinegar. We had a nice conversation about alcohol and how it's the middle step of the vinegar process. She was worried about mold, and I told her how the alcohol protected against a lot of disease, which is why it was a lot safer in the Middle Ages to drink alcohol than water. As she drained the apples from the slimy alcohol water, she said, "Do you think a lot of people would stop drinking alcohol if they knew this is what it was?" I told her that not that many of them would, and the ones who are connoisseurs are very aware of what they're drinking. But I don't mind her having the attitude that drinking rotten fruit is nasty.
cool.png
She can keep that attitude forever, if she wants.

She asked if there was any way we could bypass the alcohol process completely, but I told her it's just a natural step. The difference we're doing is not drinking the middle step, and not refining it into a good wine or cider. So the vinegar won't be as good as it could be, but it will be good for health and for the chickens.

ETA: If this sounds like I'm discriminating against those that drink, I apologize. We don't drink, but we have no problem with those that do. But regarding my 11-year-old little girl, I'll be fine if she never tries it.

Sorry guys I'm still here most of the time. Not really lurking but trying to stay connected. I'm still not back to normal, and being sick for so long is bothering my fibromyalgia. Which had basically gone since moving here. So of course I'm mad at myself for being sick and not having everything done around here (right now housework is taxing). I'm also having a hard time because I'm used to having friends and family around, and I just don't have anyone here other than my boys, and no real opportunities to meet anyone since I work at home.

Anyway I am here and I should make the Carrow's meet, since I'm dropping Ty off at GSR for the gun show in the morning.
glad you'll be there! I'm sorry you're still not feeling well and so isolated out there.

glad you did well!

Ooh I wish I had paid more attention to the art website! My kids were here all day today, and I was cracking the whip. Actually it was nice, because we got a lot done that I haven't gotten done because I've been sitting on my butt making up stories on the computer. I wrote out a list of jobs, and had a contest to see who could do the most jobs. They both worked so hard that they both won... and my husband won the right to stop hearing me complain about those jobs! I let the kids go to 7-11 for steamed milks, since they weren't at all interested in Slurpees today.

You put in a closet system... nice!!! I ripped apart an old cheap dresser that had been left on the curb and ghetto-fitted my daughter's half-bathroom into the new canning storage room. You know, the bathroom that I had once turned into a chicken brooder by putting a wire gate across, throwing straw down, and duct-taping the toilet closed just in case she chose to use it anyway? Yeah, that one. It's amazing how many mason jars a toilet can hold when you throw an old dresser top on it.
(Anyone have a banjo? I think I need a new theme song.)
