How do you Dye a chcikens vent so the eggs has some of that color on it?

You get a food dye dropper, grab your chicken and turn it upside down. Drip some of the dye in her vent. Don't use red.

Be aware though, that it doesn't work very well... even if you use a lot. First off, she'll poop it out the first time she goes. Then when the egg comes, if it is not soon, it doesn't mark the egg like you would think. My birds lay white eggs and I did this one year. I had to HUNT in bright sunlight to see the marks most days. Some days, I think she laid sooner after the dye deposit and the eggs were marked better. These were WHITE eggs and if I had to search for marks on white eggs, I can't imagine trying it on a brown egg breed.

I've heard people on other threads say they use lipstick (hopefully not one they're using for themselves

) around the vent so they can see who is laying what eggs. I've never tried it and I don't think I ever will!

Kind of sounds like we're violating the poor chickens...

Its funny....the first time i tried it i dripped a bunch onto her vent and i was not expecting this at all but...


She started sucking it INTO HER VENT. hahaha, i thought that was weird.
