Does anyone clip their chickens' wings? As much as I love Dijon and Kung Pao, they're tearing up my garlic. I need to clip wings before I plant something they'll actually EAT. I'm just nervous that I'll cut too deep.

Oooh, the Orps sound pretty tempting! Just give me a few days to talk myself into it.I have 3 hatches coming up. 1st one is due in 2 days then two more by the 3rd of April. I have EEs, Lav/black split Orps (mix of American and English lines but that describes almost all Orps from breeders these days. These girls are much bigger than hatchery Orps though. I also have blue cochins that should be half frizzled but not many of those are in there and, of course, marans (FBCMs only).
Sooooo.....Got a BQ or SQ Black???? This one will do too. LOL
I've really been wanting to breed him but the two Black Am girls have not been broody ever since I separated the three of them. Then they escaped back into the main pen and now all three of them are so skittish of me that they won't let me near them! So I've been thinking about finding him a new home.NevadaRon, are you trying to get rid of him? 'Cuz if he's a sweetie, we will take him.
*bored aristocratic tone* Isn't it just so highly inconvenient when trucks break down?
We love you Dee!![]()
Missy, any news on the potatoes yet? I'm going to start my garden next week with the hardy stuff. Swiss chard, carrot, onions, radishes and lettuce. This is really going to be a challenge for me because John is gone weeks at a time now driving so he can't till the garden for me. I get to try to do it this time, let's hope my health can hold up to it.
I've been on and off lately just hadn't posted anything much lately with so much to do around here since John left and working too.
Sunny I felt the same way. Since you are in contact with her, would you mind letting her know how sorry I am. I know that whether you expect it or not, it's not easy either way.I wanted to let you all know that (Peep_Show) Dee's Mom has passed away. You regulars know that this was not unexpected but these things are always hard on a person, no matter what. She wanted us to know that she will not be on here for awhile since she's facing a lot of work right now on top of dealing with the loss of her Mother. I hope we can all honor her request to avoid communication for awhile. I know you all care for her and want to convey your sympathies but right now she is not up to chatting. I completely understand since this is exactly how I felt when my Mother died. She will check in when she feels up to it. Thanks all!

Hi Sheryl! Sounds like you need to recruit some helpers...![]()
I did it to mine 2 years ago and it's very easy to do too. I would love to come over and show you how to do it. My vacation starts Sunday so next week is good with me.
LOL I won't hold my breath with that many already spoken for!Not all of them have sprouted, so I'm not sure how many I have yet. It was a 200-seed pack, and two people have requested 50 apiece, plus I want about 50. If I have a good sprout, I'll pass some your way. Cipollinis would sell SO WELL at a Farmer's Market! Especially if you braid them.
Hey Sheryl. Good to see you on here. We had our first salad from the lettuce and spinach we started on the 3rd. Soooo delicious!I'm going to start my garden next week with the hardy stuff. Yeah I used to trim one wing on my birds when I lived in town. If you trim both wings they learn to compensate pretty quickly. One wing trimmed throws them off balance when they try to fly. They can hop a good 2-3 feet though. So if the fence is not at least 4' trimming the wings won't do much good.Does anyone clip their chickens' wings? I only have contact with her via BYC but she wanted to let me know she would not be on BYC for awhile. I'd send her something but I doubt she'll be checking it. If she does check in I'll tell her.Sunny I felt the same way. Since you are in contact with her, would you mind letting her know how sorry I am. Like she said it's very easy to do. Once she shows you how to do one you can do the others easily.Next week is good for us as well. The only problem is that my blue andalusian is very hard to catch, so it would be best to do it at night. The other two are just big babies.
I did tell her how much we all cared about her when she PMed me but I know she knows that already. Dee is a real bright spirit here on the Nevada thread and I'm sure she knows how we feel about her. I will tell her what you said though if I hear from her again.Tyler, I'm in Lemmon Valley, about an hour and a half from Fernly.
Sunny, will you let Dee know we all will miss her, and mourn her loss. We'll be sending prayers her way.![]()
