Well this is what some of Reno looks like right now... My girls just looked at me like I was nuts when I opened their coop door this morning. *LOL*

Anyone that has to drive in this please be careful, I am going to try to convince my DH to come home early.

Ah yes. This morning I borrowed my brothers bronco thinkng "with this big truck, getting to work will be a sinch!"

WRONG!
I am missing my little front wheeled drive focus so badly right now and am dreading the drive home tonght after dark. This death trap sldes all over the roads. I don't get the point of a big truck in the city. The only time I would ever own one of these things is if I had to cross the darn Rockies to get to work every morning. I'm afraid to take off my hat because I'm pretty sure all of my hair has turned white.

Still under construction

Wonderful pictures! I love the decorations on the coop. I still have to give the house one more coat which I will do this spring and I figured I would do most of the decorative stuff then. I love what you have done with yours that is for sure!

Hello Reno! It seems like forever since Ive been on here! I have a question, My Australorp has been Broody all month and Im thinking about sticking eggs from my Cochins (fertilized by my Cochin Roo)underneath her. Im just wondering if its ok to do during winter, and if so, whats the minimum amount to let her hatch? They have a Heated Coop that is also surrounded by a kennel that has a roof and sides covered with tarp. My gals seem to be laying more now than in summer! They seem to be unaffected by the snow.

My Coop today

Eglyntine, I'm so sorry to hear about your roo! Maybe Wolftracks can find you another soon but yes, Kim, wait until the weather clears up before you attempt to cross the pass.

That matches what I've heard about installing laminate! BTW that coop is sooo cute! Very creative!

Horsefeatherz your yard looks so pretty covered in snow.

All but one of my flock is hiding in the coop right now.

Aubreynoramarie I'm so glad you are safe! I heard it's going to be an easier drive this evening but who knows how accurate that is? Sending lots of positive energy your way for an easy drive home!!!

Gitlost80 it's so good to hear from you!

It's has been a long time! I have 3 eggs under one of my girls that has gone broody at this horrid time of year too right now. I gave her 3 eggs but as far as I know there is no minimum unless you are transferring to a brooder then I would do at least 3 so that if one doesn't make it there will still be a pair since they don't do well alone. Great pics!!!

My cookie exchange is tonight and I am so looking forward to seeing you all but if you don't have front/all wheel drive and good tires don't stress about trying to make it. You're safety is much more important!!! To those that can make it,

I'm so looking forward to it.

Adorable.

I would give her a minimum of 6 eggs to hatch, she is a big girl and can handle them - I have had a large cochin mother 11 chicks before - she hatched 7 and I stuck the others under her about a week later (they were chicks hatched by a duck).

I have one bantam who hatched two chicks in early december and another cochin who is setting on eggs now.

Snow is really piling up here, we have over 4 inches and it is still coming down.
