Nevadans?

Elizabeth Mr. Pants will be staying, hes not aggressive at all, and waits until the sun comes out to crow. Hes just in his high hormone phase, lol, and i think the girls will kick him right out of it. He cracks us up way too much. For now he is totally safe, i even hope he teaches Gregory Peck a thing or two about slapstick.

And if youre serious about your noisy hen i will take her. My yard is full of blabbermouths. My turken is the loudest bird i have ever seen in my life. blah blah blah blah all day long no matter what. i love it soooo much.

Missy, that's one of the things about the WH's.. They are the most calmest and friendliest ducks around. When I put my hand in the brooder they all come running to me and in they go. They love being held and cuddled. They will get used to being put back but it does take a bit of time. Once they go outside they'll find lots of things to do.

Kim, that was one great save you did on your chick. Is it one of your lavender layers?

I haven't used it yet. I think I'll call around, and maybe have my husband pick some up when he gets more Flock Raiser.

Missy, this sounds like the miracle product you've been looking for. I just googled it and am printing out the info for my husband. I don't (knocking on wood) have or have ever had anything happen but what a great preventative product as well as treatment. Thank you Kim for sharing this, I'm picking some up today with the chicks coming in two weeks.

Yes and I tell you, that chick looked like she had been dead for a little while. They were tramping her, pooping on her........I did make a mistake though. I had 2 of them out there. When to check and see if I could tell pullet from cockerel and there is another. Why did I think just one? Anyway, I should have marked this chick, cause I can't tell them apart now. Good in some way, bad in others, but they both look like pullets. My little roo has a splayed leg that is just getting worse. I'm adding the Poly Vi Sol to their waterer when I refill it later. I figure they can all use it for one waterer full.

Rockette's leg isn't any much better either. I don't want to lose her. Stupid roosters!

Um if you guys get some decent Wellie chicks, please let me know. I have some nice birds, but my cockerel is just starting to look manly. In the meantime they are being used for Olive Eggers, but I want more. They were one of the 3

breeeds I was going to to raise. I have to count before I can figure out how many breeds I actually have.

I went to check the brooder and thought I'd look in on my Silver Phoenix broody. She's been sitting on 6 eggs, but I hadn't bothered her for about a week. The roo and another pullet that wasn't laying are with her and they never bother her, BUT! She's out eating and I look in to see the eggs and there's 13! The pullet must have started up and she pulled them all under her. I'm going to grab chicks out when they hatch and hope she hatches the rest now. I have a total of 4 broodies, but Fat Chick was broody first and I gave her 10 eggs. Then another went broody so I gave her 8. They switched nests and now the first nest only has 4 eggs. Don't see any sign of the others.

It's great stuff. I'm a bleach person and I like this better for disinfecting. We had a flu here around Christmas and I misted the air and we all got better much faster, so I use it in the house too.

I only have ever misted. They have foggers to use, but I can't afford one. I've looked them up on non-chicken sites for cheaper, just still can't do it. Misting works just fine. But fogging seems to be very effective. You can use it in a humidifier or vaporizer too.

Oh and added to the water it keeps the waterers from getting slimie and works from the inside out.

And speaking of keeping nuisances down... we went by Moana Nursery today and they had no diatomaceous earth for sale. They said ALL of it on the market was being tested for lead, because it's also offered as "food grade." They don't know when it'll be back. They offered me Seven dust and Captain Jack's Dead Bug. I got the Captain Jack's because it looks a lot less toxic. But I can't wait to have DE back! I want a pesticide that will be totally harmless if a chicken eats it. With straw in the yard, animal manure, and the water from the garden, I have a lot more flies. I really want something to sprinkle around to control that, without keeping down the chicken population as well. Suggestions?
I used fly traps when I had my pigs. They work really well and are realtively cheap.

But you know... a friend came over today, who is a very organic person. She always buys eggs that say, "no antibiotics." But after dealing with this, and realizing how much worse it would be at a commercial farm, I bet you anything the "no antibiotics" label means, "no antibiotics within a certain number of weeks before butcher or laying." How can they possibly run a large-scale operation without medicating their chickens?
They don't. In fact, it is illegal in CA to sell chick starter that isn't medicated.

Hey Aubrey! I've been wondering where you were. Sounds like all is normal at the Funny Farm!

Hello all, love the warmer weather, could do with out the wind.
Would anyone care to guess as to whether our little Happy is a Roo or Pullet? Is it too early to tell, 9.5 weeks old now.
My daughter and think Happy is a Roo.
