The very first duck to pip STILL hasn’t made progress. I can see it moving around and I think it cheeps (its hard to tell since there are 10 in the bator) but no additional pips or zip. It’s about to be 48hrs since external pip.

Should I give it more time?
The second to pip has already arrived and the third to pip is beginning to zip. Not sure why the first is taking so long :barnie

With it having been 48 hours from internal pip, I'd probably open the air cell to see what's going on. Just the air cell, and have coconut oil or neosporin etc on hand to coat the inner membrane with.

Thank you so much for the advice and the SUPER helpful link!

Well I opened up the air cell.... little fella is moving and cheeping and seems active.

The membrane started to bleed just as I finished up removing the last bit of the air cell. I put pressure on the duckling and got the bleed to stop, coated the membrane with coconut oil, and put back in the Bator.

It seems okay right now :fl

Oh I see! I misunderstood and was putting the coconut oil on the white outer membrane around the edge of the cracked shell. I’ve now put it on the inner membrane also and it did go clear like you said.

The duckling has a funny “Shrink wrapped” look now. I guess that’s to be expected since it only has the inner membrane on half of it??

Another one of the ducklings started looking Shrink wrapped as well. It made a huge pip that I could see inside of and the inner membrane had separated from outer. I’ve added more water and refilled their sponge to up the humidity. Is there anything else I need to do??

I went thru this last fall. I bought a cheap tiny incubator and it stopped working a week before hatch. I tried to make one... I had no way to monitor humidity. The hatching of that duck was the nightmare scenario. It shrunk wrap. I then tried to get it out, by doing that, it did NOT absorb the yolk. Maybe had it just had time to absorb the yolk.... I actually gave that baby mouth to beak respiration. It gave him an extra hour to live but it did not. I now..right now, have 3 eggs in the incubator pipping from the same duck. That mama duck died (don't know why) so I feel I REALLY owe it to her to get these babies to hatch. I have a GQF incubator this time and I put a humidity reader in it from Petsmart to see what its at. I am trying to stay calm this time... I keep reading it takes A LONG TIME FOR DUCKS... as long as they can breath and the humidity is up I hear its ok to take a long time.... still though. I am nervous....

Do you still see veins on the inner membrane? Is the duckling making a yawning or chewing motion?
