I am scared to open and disturb my little prisoner. I just talk to him quietly, I don't want him riled up.... I wish I knew if it would have been better to keep him in the incubator but after three easter egger chicks hatching in there 3 days before and his egg goo... I don't feel it would be sanitary enough. When the chicks hatched, I did remove and replace the paper towel liner (and again when he hatched) but I just can't imagine what unseen microbes may be lurking...

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! :bow

The ideal situation would have been tucked into the bottom of his egg, in a cup, in the incubator with the humidity still raised to keep things moist. That would have prevented him from rupturing the yolk, forced him to stay still, and the moisture would have kept the yolk moist for absorbing.

But since that's no longer an option, in a paper towel lined cup with nothing he can snag the yolk on is now the best option. Preferably in the incubator too if you can, so things stay moist. So you can move the whole setup into the incubator.

Should I make his paper towel "prison" somewhat moist? Is it being dry a danger? I have not looked in on him since I put him in there, just talked to him. I was trying to keep him calm...

No, you don't want to wet the paper towels that he's on; that would just chill him and cause issues. Just dry paper towels in there.

When i got home he was in the incubator all active(he hatched before I left for work). After discovering the issue and the vet said he needs to be in a sanitary place, I just felt the incubator is just not sanitary after the three eggs last week and this one. I can't sanitize it with eggs still brewing either.. so I thought this was the best option. I also believe I have the humidity too high 60 to 70. I have read so many articles with that range that is what I went with since I am scared of shrink wrapping but instead i think I caused the baby to grow to big that it could not turn to zip.... omg

60 to 70 for the last three days is fine, but for the first part of incubation that would be too high, yes.

OK, it was much lower for the beginning for sure. I had a staggered hatch. The lady gave me chicken eggs and the dead mama duck eggs so the chicken eggs hatched 3 days prior to the duck pipping. I had left the chicken eggs out of the incubator for as long as I felt I could before putting them in with the duck eggs but I knew they would still not hatch the same time.

You are welcome. I am very happy that all is well. It is an amazing experience and each and every hatch is different. I now have 3 wild turkey eggs busy developing in my incubator!! Never hatched a turkey before. Here's hoping :fl
