Welcome! Housing-you’re going to need a safe coop, good ventilation but no draft. Plan on at least 4 square feet per large breed chicken plus space in a run unless you free range. Because you don’t see certain critters (predators) doesn’t mean they’re not around. Chicken wire will not keep predators out... go with hardware cloth 1/2” or smaller. Plan on having snow on the ground for long time in winter- you need to be able to get to the coop, access doors, provide water that you can exchange when it freezes or keep from freezing.... I found having a covered walk in run helpful especially for foul weather, the chickens don’t always want to go out in deep snow and having a dry sheltered area keeps them safe and content. So much info here, check out the learning center and some of the forums, ask questions and enjoy your new flock

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
You have 5 feet of snow on the ground now and you have POL pullets coming in 3 weeks?? I assume you already have your coop built? What breeds are you getting?

Yes my coop and run are already built (in my basement) and Im waiting until the snow melt a bit before installing it outside. I’ll have a red sexlink, black sexlink and a plymouth rock. My girls are coming home on april 26. Im really excited and I’ve been reading a lot about chickens!

Nice to meet you :frow
