In the Brooder
Pretty proud of my set up for the 1st ever time having chickens! Long time chicken raiser friend of mine came to visit and she was impressed with it. So far after 1 week I've already opened up one end and ordered another water feeder! These gals grow fast!
My set up is with a goat Trough, pine shavings, heater, 2 feeders and an upright hanging waterer. at 1 week they are wanting to try to jump out, so the top is dual use- keep them in and dogs out!
My dogs are pretty good about things, the dark one pretty much is not interested (she is part Australian Shep) and the blonde one (herding breed mix with Lab and poss. Shep or Husky), we keep a close eye on him and I have not decided yet how much access he will have! They run off predators thus far, so they have use around the chickens, as long as they aren't going to try to eat them ! We did a Chick field trip (outside time in an enclosure - although they easily slipped out) when they got out the blonde dog just watched them, but easily went after grasshoppers. I hope his herding instincts is what is keeping him so interested, he has yet to think about a move.
