News filming my yard from a helicopter!

I agree, a LOT needs to change. It seems we can no longer protect ourselves in our own homes when our homes are invaded by gangs threatening to kill us. Criminals have more rights than good law abiding citizens do. Drug dealers get a slap on the wrist and continue dealing, drunks can have a rap sheet a mile long with DUIs, stalkers don't go to jail until they KILL the person they are stalking, but yet if someone breaks into my house and tries to harm my family and I shoot them, I will go to jail? Where is the justice here? If I trespass onto my neighbors property, I'll get in trouble, or if I take pictures of my neighbor in their yard, I can get in trouble for invasion of privacy, but yet this doesn't apply to helicopters???

I agree, its all ridiculous, oh and sorry that your daughter acted the way she did, thats tough, im 16 now but i cant imagine ever doing that, and i know some kids have isssues and stuff and i mean i guess it probably helps that i love animals and i like to think that i am usually pretty good, i mean sure sometimes i guess i swear and yell at my parents and stuff, but ive seen worse and i dont think id ever do anything drastic like that, even i did hate the animal(s) or something, id maybe at least try to talk to my parents about it first and see if we couldnt work something out before i did anything crazy like that, but you never really know with some people, im sorry, you and your son and the rest of your family must miss her, if not alot, then at least a little, but im sure she is well loved by her grandmother, and at least you tryed, sorry oh and sorry, if i sound like im being rude or anything, im not trying to be rude or open up old wounds or anything, im just saying and im sorry about your daughter...

There are laws against it but they are not enforced.

It looks like the boards of Health is not coming since my mother called the police on the agent and they said it is illegal to threaten us like that, and they are going to talk to him!

We were on the news again, but we don't have a TV so we only found out when we went shopping and everyone was stopping us to wish us luck!

Don't forget about the fact that someone can break into your home, attempt to burglarize your house, get hurt, and SUE YOU!

I want to wish you all luck, too. Don't let an antiquated ordinance get in the way of your pursuit of happiness. As a matter of fact, the next time you're interviewed, point out that your local government is trying to deny your rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Keep pushing and they'll cave by the time the next election rolls around.

We have to be protected from ourselves! "They" know better and are a whole lot smarter than we are. We can't be responsible for ourselves.

(OTH it doesn't help when idiots sue over every stupid thing and juries award huge $$$. What else are 'they' to think?)

I wish you much strength and fortitude and a lot of good stuff coming your way!

Thank you! You're a sweetheart and you're not being rude. I haven't told my story about my kids here, but all my friends on FB and on other boards know about it.

Last year Stephanie wanted to move in with her gramma (her dad and I are divorced, and it's his mother) because her gramma said if she did, she would buy Steph a car. I told Steph NO WAY, so she said I'll regret it. The next day Animal Control showed up at my house. This was the week of Mother's Day and my birthday. The next day, Child Protective Services came knocking on my door. That's right, she called them and told them that I'm on drugs, that I have a chain and lock on my refrigerator and she isn't allowed any food. Told them that I took away her bedroom door, that I turn off the water heater so she can't take a hot bath, that I never take her to the doctor when she's sick, and that I beat her and Nick at least once a week. We were investigated and the case was closed. That really hurt me. I was destroyed. Especially since I myself AM a child abuse survivor and I never once hit my kids. After she let all our birds out of the house, I let her go. It wasn't easy. She got her car, and she totaled it the day she got it. Now she doesn't talk to me.

As for Nick, he saw how Stephanie's actions destroyed me. He said he could never do this to me. On October 19th, our wedding anniversary, CPS shows up again. This time NICK called them. We took away his laptop because he got an F on his report card. He's 13 and he no longer lives here either. Long LONG story, but that's what started it. He did it to scare us. He also threatened to push me down the stairs. I wasn't having any of it. Now my home is peaceful.

So that's how I found out that Animal Control OR CPS had no right coming into our home. But they bullied us. The woman from CPS said if we don't let her in, she had the judge on speed dial and she could get a court order like THAT (snapped her fingers) and take our kids away from us (this was when Steph was still here).

Of course we were scares so we let that woman in. She took photos of all our pets. She looked in my refrigerator and took photos of it, she dug in my cabinets and took photos, my pantry, my bedroom and my dresser drawers.

Will is an Air Force officer an we felt like CRIMINALS. We did NOTHING to deserve that, but at the time we didn't know any better. That woman checked to make sure we had hot running water, she flushed all the toilets, took photos of my bedroom, my closets, my living room, the kids rooms...

Two weeks later a lawyer told us that she had no right to enter our home. She saw the kids and saw they weren't covered in bruises and starving. In order to enter our home she should have had a court order and a police officer. And since the kids weren't being abused, she had no warrant to GET a court order. So if we told her to go to hell, that was our legal right. We did nothing wrong. But it was a little too late by the time we found out.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to have my goats in my backyard, either. I also have a chicken here, and she's on eggs I brought home from the farm. But, I'm lucky in that my neighbors don't mind. It probably helps that I'm the last house on a dead end street, and there's woods next to me. If I did have a problem, I at least have a place to take them. Then, I'd fight to get the ordinances changed. I see nothing wrong w/having a few "farm" animals in your back yard, as long as you don't overdo it.

I'm not sure if they've changed it or not, but I recall hearing that it's legal in Philadelphia to have a horse in your backyard! So, if you can have a horse in Philly, why not chickens and goats in Hollywood?

I know what i'm going to say is against what everyone here thinks but didnt you check zoning rules laws etc before you got the chickens. I live in council rented housing and i checked if i could have chickens before i bought 1, I can have 6 chickens no cockerals, if i do get more it would only be a matter of time before i would be told to move or reduce my flock. if i owned my own home i still would have checked with the local authorities prior to buying my chucks.

I do feel however that using a helicopter to film your garden bang out of order and a invasion of privacy especially as you let them film on the ground.
I hope you can find a resolution that keeps everyone happy bit i fear you will have to give up your pets or move them to where the authorities allow them.

im sorry if some folk think my point of view is out of order but if you live in a urban area to me its common sense to check with local authorities before getting pets that are considered out of the ordinary local laws and regulations are there to protect and preserve the neibourhood however unjust we feel they are the time to fight them is before you break them
