ray's two cents :
I don't do the dishes anymore

My parents used to bribe me with a dollar, but now I have a job so why get my hands dirty for a dollar

Never bribed my kids. It's a chore, whoever is the "victim" for that chore that week gets stuck with it. It's part of making a house work.
Granted, I have flat out EVIL rules I've been told by "experienced" parents.
Kids get to use 2 sets of dishes a day - breakfast/dinner. They want to eat between, they wash their own plate/cup/whatever. Dishes are done at night.
A kid decides nope, I ain't washing dishes, I take away that first rule and make the kids get a new dish every time.
You get your assigned chore until YOU do it and make up for the number of times someone else has to do your chore times 3.
It's shockingly effective to make 3 sinkloads of dishes in one night to make up for one person deciding to slack.
