November Hatch -- Who's going to have late fall babies?

It's starting...a day early! A silkie has pipped. It's my 1st staggered hatch, thanks to the post office. Some BYC'ers were kind enough to give me advice so I think I'm ready to manage this process. I'm using shipped eggs and I have some pretty good lockdown numbers. Let's pray I get them through the stagger.

Day 21-buff orpington eggs spent twelve days in incubator, last nine under broody-standard white cochin. This morning one chick working it's way out of shell top and bottom. six hours later and two perfect fluffy yellow chicks. Hoping more hatch this eve. sometimes the simplest things r the most exciting (obviously my first observed hatch!) not to proud to admit it-absolutely tickled.

These are all my own eggs, collected the day of the massacre. A predator got 24 chickens and 9 ducks, so I set 24 of my own mutt eggs. The only pure ones are RIR and we are hoping for RIR roo to replace the one we lost. Next Saturday I set duck eggs for the New Years hatch.

My eggs were set very late 11/8. Didn't see any pips earlier today but did pick one up to check and it was peeping inside the shell and I could feel tapping! Broody momma was very unhappy with me. Resisting the temptation to go out right now to check.

A baby just popped out! Not one of the early pippers. I now have 3 pips and one baby out of 13 for the 1st batch.

When I left for work this morning I had 4 babies and bunch more pips. I can't wait to see how many more are out when I get home!!
