NY chicken lover!!!!

Hey guys, can you hatch eggs that have Wazine in them? Just curious because I've been waffling back and forth between worming with eprinex, which is expensive, or Wazine, which is only $9 a bottle. I can deal with the egg withdrawal (I have like four dozen eggs in the fridge anyway) but some people have been asking to buy duck eggs from me to hatch and I don't want to do that if the babies might have issues due to the Wazine.

I've also used Wazine before so if they do have worms, they might be immune to it, so I'm strongly leaning toward eprinex. I'm just curious about the hatching egg thing.

Morning all. Ended up pulling a long shift yesterday so I didnt get home until very late. I did get to see the moon last night and it was beautiful. Played dodge deer all the way home. Missed them all thank goodness. Dh had to lock up last night after freerange time. I am quite sure the terrorists and divas worked him hard for goodies.

My tater tots (aka heritage rir) are almost as big as the divas now and they are only 3 months old. Dh calls them the four amigos as they are always together, even when freeranging. The divas tolerate them pretty well with only an occasional hard peck. The taters are quick on their feet so they can outmaneuver the old girls when they need to. I am very happy with how they are turning out. They fit the breed standard in all areas and are excellent foragers. If I call out to them, here taters, they all come running to me. The boys havent found their voices yet and havent tried to. I expect that they will take longer to mature being a heritage breed. The hatchery boys were all trying to crow by now this time last year.

I now have 3 broody silkies and I blame Rancher for this illness! Two are sitting on nothing as they are not being allowed to hatch any more this year. Eowyn, my new and youngest hen, is sitting on eggs. She is allowed as I want chicks from this breeding pen. I candled a couple of times but am doing a hands off hatch for now. I want to let nature take its course. She hasnt moved from those eggs for nothing. She is a fierce little girls too. At least she has stopped trying to destroy me when I open the door to put in food and water. She lets me pet her now and I get to keep my hand in tact.

Day off today so after my dr apt I will get to spend some much needed time with my cheeps and do some housekeeping on the coops (along with my laundry and my own housekeeping!). Hoping for sun to dry out runs some more. Ta

Goodness, the description of the new ducks water antics had me laughing. I'd love to have some ducks.

I watched a wild hen turkey dust bathing in my amaranth garden, she was having quite the bath. She somehow attracted the attention of Stewie and Faye, who fluffed up their tails to look more responsible and official and bustled over toward the visiting hen. The closer they got the more they slowed down, finally wandered back to the rest of the flock. Next Earl took over the problem, and Fawn accompanied him...same thing happened. Guess the closer they got the bigger and more determined that hen must have looked.

Morning All,
I want to go out today and pick up a hygrometer for this incubator today but really don't feel like making the drive all the way out to Walmart. I was out that way yesterday for about 4 hours and really don't want to drag the kids back out again today. I hate bringing my kids to the larger stores with me. Wonder if Tru-Value or Nightingale's up in Tully will have one. That would be a much quicker drive for me.

Checked on Stella today, it's day 21 for those eggs she's sitting on. She's getting kinda feisty now that it's closer to the hatch date so I don't try to move her to get a peek at the eggs. I figure if I hear peeping they hatched. Didn't hear much today, but then again the silkie coop is right next to her and those chicks - even at 12 weeks old are still cheeping like chicks! So that was distracting me while I was trying to listen.

Speaking of those silkie chicks, I haven't said anything yet because I was so upset over this and blamed myself, but I'm down from 4 to 3 now. They were all doing fine, all living together with the adults under one roof. Well the day I decided to let them out with the big girls, Duncan, the silkie roo was chasing after everyone, even the chicks. Never did it while he was in the coop with them because they have been fine up until this point. Well I was outside with them all and all of a sudden I saw Duncan try to climb onto one of the chicks - the smallest one of the group. He quickly got off, the chick seemed ok, but apparently wasn't. I went up to the coop later in the evening to lock them and found it laying on the floor of the run, lifeless. I was so upset that I had lost yet another one of these chicks. I should have never let them out. Now Duncan is in the bigger girls since they do a good job of fending for themselves when he tries to mate with them. They turn right around, fluff out their feathers and he backs down. But this is why I questioned keeping him separated from the flock. I don't want to get rid of him because I need him for breeding. He's fine with the bigger girls, so I'm thinking I'll just leave him with them when I want to give the silkie hens a break.

I've finally decided which lav chick I'd like to keep. Just don't know who is a roo and hen still. None are showing any signs of comb development. They're all flat above their beaks.

He is quite the maniac out there. But most of the time he gives up, especially when he's with the bigger girls because he knows they won't take his behavior. The silkie hens tho, they just let him do what he wants to do and then shake it off. Just weird that he never bothered a single chick while they were cooped up. They've been in there all together since mid-May I think? I'm wondering what would happen if there was a roo in this last trio of chicks, and I kept it, what would happen. Especially seeing as how they've been growing up with Duncan. IDK, kinda don't want anymore roos in my flock. Havent been having much luck with them.

Nutty here is some info on niacin. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/349920/niacin-for-ducks it's old but should still be good i would think. Some are talking about buying capsules in the drug store then disolving them in water. Another person writes stinking nettle is high in niacin so you can make a tea out of it. Also i hear not to give ducks medicated chick starter. I have no idea what it does i just remember reading it awhile ago when i thought of ducks instead of chickens. hope it helps. jlaw
I think I am going to try the brewers yeast much less time consuming than playing around pills. I did read that too somewhere about the medicated feed but I don't buy the medicated feed because most of the baby chicks I have been vaccinated for Mareks and coccidiosis so they can't be given medicated feed or it wipes out the vaccine

Pharm glad you had a day off! I hope you got some relaxing done.

Nutty I had a mishap with the DE that is what you see on my plant LOL

I have a bum knee I woke up screaming this morning it hurt so bad so I didn't go running this morning sad face for me. I have a fun day at work limping around while dealing with people calling in UGH but I got through it and I have some advil, heating pad, and menthol patch and a beer! I should be getting better soon. Chickens are good I put in an extra next box since my sex links should be laying soon and there was an egg in it but I'm not sure who layed it, I'm actually hoping it was my Barred Rock since she stopped laying during all that rain, but she is pretty picky so maybe it was my babies. I don't know I'm glad I got them use the wooden egg so they learned eggs are not to be pecked so that is a plus. Well if it is my barred rock her silkie sisters are 4 to her 1 darn it, my youngest babies are with my silkies and I think since everyone is getting along great I'm going to keep it that way I as going to maybe take the welsummer and faverolle out and leave the brabanter when they were bigger but why mess up what seems to be a good thing, so I got the measurements of their coop and will be refurbishing it very soon along with my larger coop hopefully before my other coops arrive in august so all I have to do then is set it up. So lets hope my knee and hip on the left side cooperate.
