From Aria:

For those who were wondering where all of Aria's snow was

This was actually from a Winter when Aria still had her Call Ducks. If you look closely you can see them in the background.

And this is her Buff Silkie Roo, Ruscello who she lost prior to me bringing her Carlos, the Splash silkie roo

Hope everyone had a good day and was safe driving!
The chickens ventured out of the coop a bit more today then usual but there are the few that seem to just never want to leave...
I've been smelling skunk today...ick no footprints in the snow or any sign of skunk just the smell..strange...

I think what I need to do if go back to my original settings from my first hatch and keep the temp between 99-101 and the humidity around 45-50 days 1-18 and 60-70 days 18-21. This was the ONLY time I was able to get anything to hatch. It was a small batch of eggs - only 6 I believe(?) and 2 hatched. But when I brought it up on here and had asked why the other 4 had made it so far and then gave up some suggested my humidity was too high, so I lowered it and I haven't had any luck since. I researched these humidity levels online as far as what worked best with the Little Giant incubator and after reading many posts about what other's used and they're success rate I decided thats what I would start with. It does seem high to me, especially after most of you are stating you keep yours as low as 30-35, but maybe instead of upping to 60-70 the last few days, maybe I'll just continue to keep it at that 45-50, no higher than 60 and see what happens. IDK just weird that this is now the third time I've tried to hatch after my 1st two hatched and I haven't gotten a thing.

eHow actually states: "The proper incubator humidity for days one to 18 is approximately 50 to 55 percent. For the last three days, humidity should be increased to about 65 percent."

I never use guidelines, I watch the air cell to figure out where my humidity needs to be. I always have awful hatches in my LG, even after I added the computer fan. I think it's humidity issues. I much prefer my homemade bator - I have ridiculously good luck with it. I had eggs shipped in for the NYD hatch, and every single one is developing, which is crazy.

Just spend a couple hours out shoveling the chicken run. The wusses wouldn't come out of the coop until I did. I was almost in the snow laughing when one of my younger pullets decided to stand on my poor duck so she didn't get her feet in the snow. The duck was not amused. I got a big new bag of food today - my local TSC has started carrying Naturewise and they sell it for the same amount as the Dumor stuff. It has no added hormones or junk and has added probiotics. I'm switching for sure. It has such a healthy smell to it where I've opened Dumor before and been hit with the smell of alcohol. I also spliced in some cracked corn to help them make more heat and put out a flock block. I'm also going to worm them since not a single one is laying anyway, sigh. Ah well, when I was done they were happy.

We have about 2 feet now. We have a plow truck that we use to plow our driveway and our neighbors. I wish I had a small blower for the chicken and dog runs. I keep the chicken run shoveled. I'll have to leave it be and see if they will come out. I like to shovel a path in the dog run out a ways and then make a big circle that we call the poop area. If not they tend to do their business at the bottom of the stairs. I broke the shovel this afternoon. I need to find a new screw and shovel the dogs run still...but then again it is supposed to be 45 on Friday.

I would love to hatch out some chicks this spring, but DH said no new animals next year...I guess that means that I'll have to hurry up and get them soon...right!?

The way I see it you've got about 15 days and If I have chicks hatch and don't want them and you take them then it's all good.

So I says to DW in getting the tree, don't get one to big cuz I don't want to have to cut a lot off.   We have 7' ceilings here, (which  I prefer being short). I said about 6'.   So I went out to cut the tree and put it in the stand to bring it in.  How tall is it?   8' !

Next year I'm getting a pet Beaver and just have it gnaw the darn thing the right height!

I have seen those artificial "half' trees that you hang on the wall.  I'm gonna get one, stick it on the wall and leave it up all year.  Just take the trimmings off and stick some house plants around it.   Instant inside forest.

I swear that woman's trying to kill me.

We quit putting up a big tree a couple years ago and started buying live trees. After Christmas I put it in the garage to let it go dormant and then plant it in the spring.

I would really like to give this a try sometime but DW says no. I do intend to plant some pines around the property sometime though.

Finally made of home from vacation. For those wondering how hoop coops hold up under snow........I had close to 3 feet on mine & it was still standing. The top was not rounded like normal but def was still sturdy. I shoveled it all off since the air vents were all buried. It was a little stinky in there but cleared up as soon as the vents were cleared.

And muck boots are awesome.......up to my hips in snow and not a drop in the boots since they are snug to the calf. I won't be buying another pair of boots ever !!

We are suppose to get another foot or more tomorrow..........I did try to bring the sun home with me :)

We got about 10 inches of snow. The chickens are afraid of the snow. The ducks have red feet from walking on it. Time to put some leaves in the run for the quackers, since they are the only ones that are coming out of the coop right now.

Well, I now know what a fox says!
