Well if you want we can blame you for it ! LOL It is coming down here too .1:25 p.m. and still no snow flying here. Wind is horrible, though, and I hear snow is falling around us in different areas.
Had the horses out this morning, but they're in now, enjoying some hay, out of this brutal wind.
Be safe out there, whatever the weather brings your area of the state!

WELL, IT'S COMING DOWN NOW -- GUESS I JINXED THINGS!
I know hubby would like some buff orps, that was his favorite girl in the Amish coop. But I think distance is a problem for us - you were near Vermont, right? I'm between Cortland and Binghamton. :/ Hope everyone posts pics of their little fuzzy chicks, Little Girl loves seeing the baby chick pics!
Rancher - & anyone else with suggestions.
I have a mixed layer flock. I need to figure out how to tell if the older girls are laying & if so how many eggs/week. Any ideas how to do this ? I don't have the space to seperate them , nor trap nest them. I don't want to sound "cold" but if the girls are not earning their keep............................. they have to go.
I use this method, it works well. You have to do it every couple of days though.I've never done this personally, but I've heard that you can put a different color food coloring on the vent of each bird at night before they lay, and when/if they lay, a little food coloring will rub off onto the egg and there you go.

I've heard about people using lipstick on their vents. Let's just hope they don't put it back in the make-up bag.
Adora, could you explain how to do this. I tried it, but didn't get color on the eggs. Wouldn't think that I was doing it wrong, but...................................I use this method, it works well. You have to do it every couple of days though.
