OEGB - broodiness, personality, egg-laying, maturity?

Just for anyone who cares to know;
My Self-Blue OEGB, Gracie, started laying eggs only about a month ago, and yet just today already decided to go broody! Hahahahaha :D.

We have a TINY red pyle OEGB named Dove (so named because she's about the size of a dove...) She went broody on us last summer and hatched out two sweet little chicks. Since the eggs weren't actually hers, the babies quickly outgrew her, but she still wrapped her wings around them to keep them warm. It was just amazing to watch. :love

Lol this whole thread reminds me of a self blue OEGB hen I had, she was very sweet also and I named her Dove. She only lived a few months, killed by the Arizona heat, it was 110 degrees that day in 2007. She had water and I wanted to freeze a 2 L water bottle as suggested on here for them to cool on but a relative I lived with was afraid of SARS at the time and wouldn't let me even though the bottle had never touched the birds and it was several years after SARS ended :confused:

Random Update: OEGB Gracie and chicks are still doing well, today is Day Five of life for them! In a sudden impulsive move, my mother decided she really, really wanted an Easter Egger, and managed to get one baby EE chick from someone; we tried giving it to Gracie, but she rejected it, puffed up at it and growled...
However, we have another broody that has been sitting for three weeks, even when we took the eggs she was sitting on, and the timing was perfect, so last night we slipped the baby EE under Bootsie, our white frizzled bantam Cochin, and she accepted it! Both baby EE and Bootsie have bonded, talk and respond to each other, and get along great;
So, in short, we now have TWO mommies, and they are both doing awesome! :)

Gracie's babies are now a week old and have developed some wing feathers and tail feathers! The OEGB x Japanese Bantam chick is still all black, but the Bantam Cochin x Japanese Bantam chick has some orangeish-brown developing on the wing feathers! Bootsie's Easter Egger chick has a blend of white, yellow, brown, and eyeliner of course, haha. I can't wait to see how they all turn out as they get older!

Congrats on the healthy babies! I love hearing the updates!

So, back on here after a hiatus, Gracie the self-blue OEBG has gone broody again, so we're gonna give this another go :). We let her have: One of her own eggs, + four frizzled bantam Cochin eggs. The cockerel is the same for all of them, a BTB Japanese Bantam. We'll see what happens! Hopefully the chicks LIVE this time, lol.

Bootsie's EE chick ended up being male, at least we're pretty sure it is male, so we're going to have to give it up; highly doubt Taichi will put up with another dude around, haha.

Ah, thank you for keeping up with my chicken life, I remember you!
I enjoy reading your own posts, so I'm glad you'll be keeping up with my own chicken stuffs :). Gracie so far seems like she's going to be one of those perpetually broody girls; it's seriously not been that long since she lost her chicks, and she's already back at it, haha. THIS time we have the old coop MUCH more secured, and we're much better prepared in general. I think it'll all go well this time, as long as we keep the fan pointed toward the old coop, Florida is way too hot this time of year, lol.
Also, THIS time I'm going to update with pics once things get going :).
Thanks for your interest :)
