LOL woooow people. They ask you what your religion is at your hospital? That's a bit odd.

I don't consider it odd, but probably because I've been around alot of hospitals associated with a convent of catholic nuns or other religious affiliation sponsors. Most hospitals have a priest or chaplain on call for counseling or comforting. They ask your religion so they know which chaplain or other religious worker to have visit you in case of trying times. I've received care at St.Jopeph's/Mercy health center in Hot Springs. The nuns there are very sweet and helpful.
My son was born at Mercy Hospital in Miami, run by nuns. My daughter was born at a non-denominational hospital, but they had priests and chaplains on staff.
Funny story there.
My mom knew I was in labor with my daughter, but couldn't get any information regarding how I was doing and how far my labor had progressed. This way back in the day before cell phones were widely used. When she couldn't get any info. from the desk, she asked to speak to the priest. Nothing like coming out of anesthesia (from my C-section) to find a priest standing over you.

They ask at both the hospitals here just to know who to send if you need comforting. My guess? There's no Pagan on staff to council other Pagans at this hospital.....just a guess.

Goddess Blessings all.

With our next holiday not too far away i was wondering what everyone had planned. So what do you all do for the Candlemas Feb 1.

Here is a calling for that day.

This is the feast of Candlemas
the time of returning light.
Behold the three-form Goddess
the Madien, Mother and Crone.

Without light there comes no darkness,
without darkness no light.

Without spring there comes no summer,
without summer, no winter,
without winter no spring.

Blessed Be the Great Mother
Persephone, Demter, Hecate
Blessed Be the moon in all her forms.

Isn't Imbolc on Feb. 2, Groundhog's Day?

Beautiful poetry, Cybercat! "Blessed be the moon in all her forms."

Just before Imbolc, on Jan 30 according to my earth seasons calendar for the northern hemisphere, the Full Moon will be her brightest for the year, as it coincides with the annual perigee, the moon's closest point to the earth for the year.

A little sidetrack - can you tell me more about your calendar? Sounds like one I'd like, too!

Sure, I got mine at our local food co-op. It's this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Ecological-2010-Calendar-Experience-Time/dp/0764948458

Each panel is a full season, from equinox to solstice or vice versa. Instead of being broken into day boxes and month chunks, time flows. The design represents nature with the Sky Band above, the Earth below, and in between those bands the Sun Band (which I love!) and the Moon Band, with the Tide Chart and the Calendar Band below Earth. End-to-end the panels represent the year (from Winter Solstice to Winter Solstice, instead of Gregorian year). The back of each seasonal panel is a detailed description of the opposite seasonal panel and facts about the seasonal, terrestrial and meteorological phenomena that are represented on the front. For example, the Winter panel has Winter on the front and the information about Summer on the back.

I love this calendar cuz it really shows you how It's ALL Connected. The Amazon price is a good one, btw. My co-op sells (sold) it for $14.99.

i find it very amusing that when my grandfather went into the hospital they asked him his religion and he told them Methodist. but when it came to stuff like communion he was such a stickler for telling off anyone who wanted to make him do it-he did it once in his life and that was enough. growing up in Newfoundland he had a better connection to the earth than to any religion. he was mostly going because of my grandmother (my religious g.grandfather's daughter). i think this is the side of my family i have the best connection with. my grandfather's sister was a midwife and used a lot of herbs and plants during her time practicing and though i never got to meet her in person i feel we were connected in our appreciation for nature.

i'd be afraid to tell someone at the hospital that i was a pagan-for fear they might try and 'preach to the choir'!

just bring me a live plant and i will get along fine with my Goddess thank you very much!
