Oh, my, those Mallards can fly!

My son bought 2 mallard chicks in March that were supposedly less than a week old from TSC. We began letting them free range with the year old ducks and chickens last week. This is allowed after 3pm and on days we are home to keep a watch on predators. 2 days ago they began flying around the house. Today they began flying back and forth to the neighbor across the street.

We have 2 other mystery breed ducks that are also a year old and I don't think I have ever seen them fly. Will I need to clip wings or anything on the mallards or is their roaming fairly short distance if they are domestic? Any other surprises I need to be watching for?

If you wanna keep em, clip em. They can & will fly away, especially when they decide to go look for mates.
