EE PULLETS

What a cute little face. :)

Fun news, I had one more hatchling today! Of the 15 extra EE eggs from minihorse that I threw together a homemade styro-bator for, one hatched today (Day 22) which is a true miracle! The temps in that thing were insane. Down to 85 one hour and up to 112 the next. I was sure they were all dead. This little penguin (

) hatched this morning. One other pipped yesterday but seems to be in a wonky position so I've been helping it. It's still alive but I'm not holding my breath for him. One other egg was alive yesterday but never saw anything from it after then so I started to help and realized it was already dead, yolk fully absorbed and all, so sad.

Insane is probably an apt description for those swings in temp, during incubation. Keep you eye on that one, his/her little brain is probably affected, There are those in the dark recesses of the world who think this is how the zombie apocalypse will begin, first slowly, then rapidly working it's way up the food chain. Beware. Beware.

Hey Bucks!!!! Quick question this is my first year with Chickens. I have 6 EE hens at about 20 weeks when do you guys usually start to winterize your coop? I live in Lorain county closer to the lake.

I'm in mid-Ohio, so a bit more moderate temps here. I don't really winterize my coops per se -- so long as they are dry and free of drafts, my larger chickens do fine. The seramas come inside for the winter :) Other than that I usually put down an extra layer of shavings for them to root around in, and that's pretty much it.

lol. Well I'd feel pretty lousy if I started an apocalypse with my zombie chicken so I'll watch him and cull at the first sign of brain lust. Thanks for the heads up.
