You aren't alone. I once locked myself in the run of the pen. Let me just describe my setup...The chicknen coop is a front room of a barn we were using for storage. There are three doors in the coop. One to the back of the barn, one that goes out into the run and one that is the one I come into from a side storage room. All of the doors are people size and when we made the run we had to do it so that the top went over the door so I could open it out. The run walls ended up being about 8ft or so with no external doors. I had this great idea to put these cute gate latches on all the doors so it would be super simple to open and close. These latches automatically lock when the door is closed and you have to pull the top up to open them. Well the week before I got stuck it had been raining a lot so the wood door was swollen and I had to fight to get it shut.

One day I go to put the chickens up for the afternoon and they are all still out so I herd them in but everytime I get everyone in, one manages to run around behind me. I go to chase it in and while my back is turned all the rest come running back out. I got really frustrated and when I got most of them in I pulled the door so it would be mostly shut so the others couldn't come back out. As I turned to get the last one I heard *click* and turn to see the door closed. Apparently the swelling in the wood went down and now the door swung shut with ease. I had a string that went through the door so I could open it from the outside just in case but it had fallen through. I ended up busting through the door with my shoulder because I just refused to let anyone know what I had done.

Well now the door is being held shut with a bungee till I can get it fixed and I have to pay a doctors bill for a shoulder x-ray.

OMG .... I am so glad you got out of there! Isn't that an awful feeling, being locked in?!!!
I always (well, usually) carry my phone in one pocket and camera in another. However, there was one time I had to shimmy through a pop door opening because DS locked me in. He insists it was an accident. BTW, my phone was sitting on the picnic table just outside the door. I think I am gonna have to start wearing a fanny pack every time I go outside!

LOL, my husband locked me in the coop at 10pm while I had hairdye on my head a few weeks ago.I went out to collect a just hatched chick and then next thing I knew I couldnt get out.I had to climb out the chicken door and out the fence to get back inside...and then he is like "What took you so long?" and I was omg...you idiot, you dont even have a clue that you dead bolted me in there.
