***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Okay, I am thinking we need to get a BIG dog, our lab mixes are intimidating, but they don't say "keep out" the way a larger dog would.

My almost three year old is sharing her sour cream and onion pringles with a turkey poult.... think the flavoring will stick?

Is there usually a lot of equipment and supplies at Newcastle or is it mostly livestock?

So what are you trying to keep out? Nothing says move along better to a human like a nicely cropped and docked Doberman. They can be the biggest clown there is but people still won't come in the fence with them.

A very good critter-gitter is the Komondor. It is said that the Komondor is the sole reason that wolves are extinct in Hungary. So far with the pair we have everything that I have read about them is spot-on. They don't jump up on you, they won't leave their area to chase after a predator. After all if they are leaving they are no longer a threat. And the most important to me is that they don't bark all night long while on patrol like most other breeds of LGD.

I've seen the boys work at night and it is impressive, the closer the Coyotes get the quieter they become and they go over and wait near where the critters are.

Good deal Elwood! Man after my own heart,I am a scavanger from the git-go!lol

Rainy day here and another tomorrow. Poor taco dog was scared to death because of the thunder. Of course it didn't help any that while I was holding her and comforting her I almost jumped out of my skin at seriously loud clap of thunder!lol. There was some of the loudest thunder I have ever heard. But the rain sure made everything pop out green. I noticed the oaks have a green tinge to them, won't be haveing windows and doors open next week, wife is terribly messed up when the oaks bloom.
Finally heard my little bantam hamburg singing awy this afternoon. I didn't think she was ever going to mature and start laying. My buddy is picking up a trio of partridge wyandottes tomorrow. The are breeder show stock and sure look nice. He will have eggs for sale if anyone is interested in that breed. They sure set him back a pretty penny to!

Well just 1/2 till I am officially on Spring Break and that is a 1/2 day too many. I totally hate parent/teacher conferences.
Good news is I had another baby chick hatch so now that is three in the plastic hen (aka brooder). Anyone interested in banty mutt cochins?

Hiya Gang!! Been busy for a few days I acquired the flooring from some basketball courts and have been hauling it to store here a load a day it's kicking my butt too LOL It sure has some nice grain in the maple quite a bit of birds-eye in it,

I was taking a break sitting here and in came my wayward new dog that's been AWOL for a while he got loved on then a bite to eat and gone again, Not sure where he's hanging out at but someone has taken off his collar, I'm gonna set up a place for him the next time he drops by and see if I can get him fixed before he gets to run off again, I'm thinking he may be coming in to eat when I'm not home also.

I was hoping to make Newcastle sale but going to be covered up with figuring out how to stack and store the rest of the flooring so it don't ruin, I have so much I see some chickens living in maple wood lined houses LOL

Well off to sleep haven't been getting enough of that lately, Have a wonderful night and a better tomorrow :)
Hey Bill, that maple would look good in your house. Just think nice shiny maple wood floors throughout the house. That would be fabu.
Hope to see you at Newcastle. Sorry we did not get much time to talk at Blanchard. Dang was it crowded or what. Newcastle is probably going to be packed as well, since they have not had an auction in a while.

Actually what you need is llamas. They don't eat chickens, they will keep your trees, shrubs and grass trimmed, they don't bark and dogs are naturally repelled by them. The price of feeding a couple of llamas is about the same as feeding one big dog.
You do have to have more then one because a single llama is a lonely llama and then they start seeing you as a llama and that is no bueno.
Here is another thing about llamas. They are a mystery, people who would brave a yard with a dog will not go in a yard with a llama in it, because most people do not know squat about them. Some of the things people think they know about llamas is crazy. A lady asked once if I had any burns scars from the acid the llamas spit. She actually thought llamas spit acid, No kidding. Plus my boys are big. Skylar is 6 ft tall and Dexter is about 5' 10" but when they rear up both are almost 8 ft tall. And both are nearly 300lbs. So few people want to mess with them because of their size. Oh and lets not forget the two claws they have on each foot. They can and will gut a dog, coyote but I have never heard of them doing this to a human. I guess they could if they wanted to. Skylar has become really protective and he has reared up on a couple of people who have come on my property because he was protecting me. But in reality he is a bit of a wuss and a good yelling will keep him back. Or a punch in then nose, he hates when I do that.
Now a days people are giving them away, or real cheap. Check craigslist, I see postings about once a week for them.
Just a thought.

Thanks for the tip! I was thinking GS, rott, or doby, but DH nixed all of those, he's talking hunting dog

Exactly what we need, something that won't chase off people, but will probably go after our flock. I'll have to look up the Komondor.

I am impressed that my labs have adapted to non fenced life. For the most part they are staying close to the house, but on the occasion they stayed at my parent's two acres they were always digging out and running off. Go figure. They did just that yesterday, there was a guy walking down the street (mind you our house is set well off from the street) they ran to the fence barked and hollard, the guy told them to git so they just stood there and watched him. I'd have been happier if the guy had gone running in terror

HAHA acid spit? Really?? That's great! I've noticed a few houses down the way with llamas. I always wanted a llama, problem is I have three very young children and subpar fencing
hmm.png
who am I kidding it's practically non existant fencing, what is there is a ball of mess for the most part.

ok, back to bed. supreme commander will be here shortly. mabey if i whine enough she will rub my back.

ok, who am i kidding. i am sick, back hurts, and she will do anything to make me feel better. i am so lucky!

There is a draw around here that is a regular hiway for those cats and I ran across it by accident over 35 years ago. I could not believe the number of tracks and being curious I started tracking them. I've seen quite a few Cougars through the years and I know that I have been closer then I should have been at times. That is what I like about a light dusting of snow, it's tracking time!!

I think a lot of the stories about the black cats are because most of the time you see the cats in a low-light situation which makes them look darker then they are. If I remember right they used to be called ghosts of the prarie way back when. I can see why too because in the blink of an eye they can just disappear.

You are so lucky!! Have you ever taken pics?? I have believed for a long time there were cougars in OK. My brother on the other hand, hears sooooo many crazy stories... like the we have to drive around the black panther thing, that he doesn't believe anyone anymore. He got to go pick up the cougar that was killed on the railroad tracks here a couple of years ago, and it was such a beautiful animal. The tracks it was killed on lead to an OGE plant that burns coal... coal that comes from WY. That was one theory about how the cat got there. It would've been interesting to find out if the cat had fed on deer from OK or if it had indead been living elsewhere and hitched a ride on a coal car.
I agree about your theory on the reason so many sightings are reported as being black, since there's never been a documented case of a black cougar. So if someone sees a big black cat, we may be looking at a population of jaguars or leopards. Boy would I love to get a pic of one of those!! For now, I'd settle for a pic of a cougar in OK.
Have you ever thought of putting out a trail cam? If it snows, can I come track some cats too? I know if I ever get lucky enough to see one in the wild, I won't be lucky enough to have my camera.
