***OKIES in the BYC III ***

OMG!!!! Those birds are beautiful! Ummm how hard is it to hatch peacock eggs?

Sending you a PM on the peacock eggs. Here are pics of my boys.

Not hard..but not good for first time hatchers...

The temps are the same as anything, 99.5, 45% humidity until lock down...go to 65%....now the kicker...

The eggs will hatch, sometimes, in an auto turn egg rack...but I've found leaving the eggs on their side and rotating at least twice a day helps exponentially. "X" on one side, "O" on the other...just hand turning gets to be a pain, but well worth the results!

Edited to add: Thanks for the compliments! We're pretty fond of the boys...my Wife has named the Blue one "Raj" and the Pied one, "Taj"

You are correct...and the cool thing about Pieds, there is a 25% chance of blue, 50% chance of pied, and...wait for it.....25% for an all white! I've not gotten an all white yet, but the genetics are there.

Well my pipped egg didn't make it. He started doing the gasp of death so I decided to open the egg up some more, he died shortly after. Just opened it up the rest of the way and he hadn't absorbed his yolk. I think he was destined for death anyway since he was pipping the wrong end of the egg. If I'd left him he'd of suffocated, but he was no where near ready to get out. Go figure

i am sorry- it does happen, but they can hatch out of the small end, but it is harder on them... i asked the same thing a couple weeks ago, i'll have to find the thread

Okie ridge -the guinea that pipped first didn't make it. However the little white one already knows he is a guinea. He wakes up & paces back in forth in window.
We just sat 52 guinea eggs in the incubator!!!! This will be the hatch that DD will have for poops. I have no guess on fertility or colors yet but fingers crossed DD will be bringing a few dz keets to share with those who have been wanting them. Think this next wk will be the last chicken eggs we set. Incubator space is becoming scarce, and that is with running 2 cabinet incubators & the brinsea!

Yay - Keets!

CityClucks visit today was an inspiration to my "girls"; this afternoon I collected their first egg. A wee bit of an egg but enough to mathematically verify that I have at least one authentic chicken.

Your visit has me more excited about POOPS and thanks again for the lovely eggs. Where did you get the pink egg carton?

KatieCov: Like your use of the space under your coop for storage. If and when I get a proper coop I hope to have a bit of storage in it to get the feed and bedding storage out of the garage.

Hi John! I get the pink egg cartons at eggcartons.com. They are currently having a "free shipping" deal...!

I think I saw the thread while I was searching, but it seems most of the threads I read don't end well for small ended pips. I don't think this guy was ment to make it, he never chirped. Something wasn't right, when I peeled the membrane he was gasping for air. Later I could see his chest doing the death heave, that's when I took him out mostly and he died. My other eggs are chirping now, I hope they all hatch in the night and I wake up to a full bator of fuzzy butts.
