***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Robin, that EE mix just might be a girl.
Wayne, those Buff Silkies are gorgeous-wow! I'm going to try the hair gel idea on a couple of mine tomorrow. Everytime I give them haircuts I mess it up.
Christina, I'm anxious to hear how the Silkie does. Your daughter has a heart of gold and so does her mama.
i hope you are right, she is so darn pretty! folks that show silkies recommend doing the gel rather than barrettes or hair ties, then they wash it out before shows

I will have to read up on silkies and see if there is anything extra I can do to help her. We did put ACV in her water, thought about giving her a bit of cat food for an instant protein boost. In silkie terms a full meal would be like 5 or 6 pieces of cat food right?

the cat food is a good idea, also scrambled eggs, yogurt, definitely some liquid vitamins in the water, polyvisol without iron, they tend to be anemic - keep us posted on her

mj, here are my cochin chicks, the first from joe(except the ee in the front), the second from a friend who has 'giant cochins' not sure if that is an official designation or not- the third photo just cute all lined up

Got my garden plowed today.

I have been trying to find someone to plow it for over a month now. This time next year if things go better I plan on having a little tractor so I do not have to be at other peoples mercy or schedule. But now the reality is I can no longer whine about not having it plowed, got to get of my butt and go to work in it.

Alrighty, I have the sick hen and chick treated with tylan 50, gave both vitamin drops, and have everything ready to go to put vitamins in all waterers tomorrow morning and probios in the feed. The chick is moving around and took several swallows of water so I am hoping I caught this all in time. I make sure I isolate all new birds so I do not know where this came from.

Anyone going to Newcastle tomorrow, I plan to go as long as DH and I can find it. LOL

Keep meaning to post a picture of the Bantam Faverolles babies, they're 5 wks old now. They sure don't look like much at this age

Then my Splash LF Cochin girl, Colin. One of my special Cochin babies.

Nice chicks, but I love the Cochin girl.. she is a Dollie!

I have the hatcher Full!!
And almost re-filled the Incubator

Looking forward to a new day, I'm a bit tired and almost cought up with myself for the moment.

Thank you Carl...like I said, I owe you big time!

here i my link

this has happened twice, both times i was able to help- the first one i thought he was gone, and actually blew air into him- he made it fine(had to hobble him due to spraddle let), the second time i only peeled a little shell so he would have to work his legs to get out, and he is running fine with the cochins chicks, both times they were ee's, so i am pretty clueless on why's and where fors, but the less you can help the better, but there comes a time when you may need to help- i just lost one little guy that was weak at hatching, so i don't know what is worse- losing them as they hatch or putting your heart into one and a day or so later they are gone- either way is hard...

The current Poultry magazine has a great article on assisted hatch wirtten by a guy from Canada who incubates "difficult breeds". The article has great sketches and pcitrues as teaching aides.

Googled Newcastle so have maps for getting to Newcastle auction from Shawnee on Hwy 9.
Once on 277 North to Newcastle...will there be signs?
130 is W. Fox Lane (E -W) and 277 North is same as Main.

May try to come....still debating driving at night....

Great pics. The last one is like a class photo; almost everybody is looking at the camera and smiling but one is distracted, one fell asleep and one short kid is hidden by a tall one
