***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Ya'll are the future of this hobby and it is up to us old farts that have already made major mistakes with the birds to pass on what we have learned. Most of my knowledge was passed to me by those that came before me and through the years I have added to it by doing a lot of research.

If ya'll do any searches concerning NNs be sure to put Naked Neck Chickens into the search engine. If you just search Naked Necks the results will melt your eyeballs. LOL Same with Auto-sexing chickens, don't type in sex-links. That is even worse!

NN, you need to write a book. Us young farts have poor memories and attention spans. Can't remember all the info and too lazy to read thru 3 threads and 400 pages of thousands of posts lol.

I bet Carl would know. Is it the same age as the others?

The 6 of the same color patterns are all the same age. Carl will be coming out this week to help me candle, I was thinking of showing him them also.

I think that if I did write a book it would be more about how to find the information rather then the information itself. I have a lot of sites saved but I can't post them here because they have forums and that is against BYC rules.
Of course basic stuff like wound care and how to give shots would be included but medications are changing yearly and it is trying to keep up with all of that stuff.

I do have permission from more then one site adm. to post excerpts from their threads without ever mentioning their sites and that is where a lot of my info comes from.

We have never been flogged by a NN rooster and have been raising them over 20 years. Never been flogged by an Oriental Game either. But as I said they do give love bites which suprise more then hurt. Now I have had a few NN hens go after me once when I got way too close to her newly hatched chicks. The hen gave an alarm call and suddenly I saw 20 hens coming at me at a dead run. I backed up and everything went back to normal.

A good breeder will not keep a bird that shows agression to the keeper, as they say "A mean rooster has the best flavor!"

I totally believe that w/ everything I feed and shelter, nothing has the right to attack me, and while I may not eat it (dogs etc... ) that is a sure way for a one way ticket out of my home!!!!!

I could add a few others, beaver, wetlands, and whitehouse.

The other day we had a red healer wander up in the yard. We know where she belongs but she refused to go back home and the owners said to just keep her, they could not trust her to run off yet they have had her for over a year.

Beautiful dog and very well mannered. When let out she goes and does her duty and then checks the horses, the goats and makes the rounds to all of the chicken pens then comes back in. She acts like she has lived here all of her life. Teva was getting chicks out of the incubator today and setting them on the bed with her before putting them in the brooder, she just gave each chick a sniff and that was it.

I think she may be a keeper.

Well I have got to go to bed. There is a headless Dodge Neon waiting on me in the morning to get put back together.

It is the Madagascar Game. And before you say it Tara I refuse to call them by that French name!! There are still some pure Mad. Games in SE Asia high in the mountains of Viet Nam and Cambodia. They are a highly intellegent bird that will take care of family above all.

Here is a specimin that is mounted in a museum somewhere in the North of France.

And here are three drawings, I believe that the pen and ink of the pair was done in the 1800s and the color one was done in the 1920s. The other one looks pretty modern to me.

That is how we got our last dog, she wandered into our yard and refused to go home, and they didn't want her.
