Sick chickens been giving the antibiotics for two rounds now and they r still not better. I think the second picture is molting.v We have three with matted feathers around neck and upper wing area and they sleep with their heads inthe matted feathers. And they dont act right sometimes it sounds like they r growling. Any feedback ?

I would begin by putting Vet Rx under their wing where the feathers are matted and then rub their comb, beak and wattles with Vet Rx. Others have suggested antibiotics and since I don't usually use antibiotics, I won't try and add any advice to theirs.

Nanakat, this is my first year to grow sweet potatoes, my vines are still good, we didn't have a freeze do I wait for a freeze/frost to harvest?

You want to cut off the vines before a freeze. If vines freeze, that affects the curing process for the tubers. It shortens the storage length.
Roger dug any that were exposed after he cut off the vines. Those are curing now. I'm digging the rest before the next rain. Wet ground makes wet tubers that don't cure well either.
I will lay them out on the deck each day and bring them inside each evening for several days and then store in a cool dry place. Mold is your worst enemy.

Entry in .if anyone wants to help set up we could use some help.who
IS the judge at the green county show.

Kass, the babies are getting so big so fast, I'm loving that white one.
Modernman, I don't know who the judge is. BanjoeJoe will know but he doesn't get on very often.

One thing that has me stumped....these 10 chicks the Bantam Cochin hatched are all super healthy, running around like crazy and growing fast. Yet their mama lived in the layers yard among 15 other chickens from various sources. You'd think she'd have been exposed to all sort of things. She's never been sick but a couple others in that yard have had respiratory crap and gotten over it. I've been *bleaching my shoes before entering yards for almost a year now to try to avoid spreading disease to my hatched chicks. You'd think the Bantam Cochin girl would be Typhoid Mary of the chicken world-her chicks are a month old yet they've never been sick. Confuses me. They can't pass immunity onto their chicks, can they?

Was the momma hen one you aquired semi grown?? Maybe she had already gotten sick & built immunity. Now as far as the chicks the I imagine you have been lucky so far. Wonder if being raised by mom helps?? Kinda like the way breast milk helps human babies??
Love the beard on that chick Mitzi!! Imagine he could be a messy eater.

Our female boer, Bambi, has now become an escape artist. Wonder if she is coming in season? She started jumping the fence yesterday & has jumped it a dz times. Never jumped the fence before she is a yr old now & very much enjoying the chase & challenges she is giving us.
